Shats Tan Fleck Germany do something about it i continuously hear and read people s complaints in regard to cafes the Tom Joyner show and other subjects. It s great that the stars & stripes allows . High ranking military or civilian do something about these complaints in regard to what an airs and to what cafes charges. A great Many people will be Happy with just cause. David Mixon Mannheim Germany thoughts on getting out i was just doing a Little thinking the other Day when i came to the realization that when i get out next year i Ain t getting Jack i be been in this wonderful army for Over seven years. The army has been Good to me and i be done a lot of Cool stuff. I hate to go but the Money i be been offered in the civilian world is just too much to pass up. I Don t know Why it s taken me so Long to figure out that if Only i d eaten a Little More or milked sick Call i could be get Ting paid to get out just like the Soldier who does maybe two or three years and gets out on a chapter. Now Don t take this the wrong Way. I know there Are soldiers who have legitimate problems and they Are removed from the military involuntarily. Maybe someone should do something about this sgt. Bryan c. Hood Schweinfurt Germany missed Opportunity the absence of president Clinton at the ceremony commemorating the year end turnover of the Panama canal shows one thing he is not a Good sport. Richard h. Frese Stuttgart Germany talk about retention i have always heard that within Reading the first three lines of anything a person will determine whether or not he or she will finish what it is they Are about to read. So with that said i can now discuss the topic of retention. Who am i to discuss the topic of retention anyhow i am not a politician i m not a Recruiter or a Drill sergeant or a decision maker. I m just a simple Joe trying to get to the 20-year Mark before the Sand runs its course through my hourglass. It seems to me that one problem the Mili tary has with retention is that Good sol Diers Are getting out. I am not talking about those soldiers who just wish to end their time with the military to attend col lege or whatever. I am talking about Good soldiers disciplined fit and motivated who Are being forced out soldiers who wish to make the military a career but can t. Why because for one reason or another they do not wish to be leaders. They have no desire to be inducted into the no corps. They Are Content and Happy just being a part of the military in any capacity. Why do we try to make leaders out of soldiers who Aren t or have no wish to be one it takes More than just a set of stripes on a Collar to make a person a Leader. So Why punish those who Don t want these stripes just for the record i am an no and a Leader of men. And i am a proud member of the Backbone of the but i think the military should seriously consider bringing Back the ranks of specialist 5, specialist 6, Etc. Or devise a new rank Structure for no leaders. Likewise the other branches of the ser vice can have a comparable rank Structure also for soldiers not wishing to be cos. Let s train our leaders to be better Lead ers and let those who just want to Soldier without the Burden of responsibility be soldiers. The entire enlisted ranks would Benefit from this change. Also it would make the no corps Strong again just like the officer corps. Furthermore it would bring respect and Honor Back to the no corps. Is it just me or does the idea of giving a Soldier the rank of sergeant for re enlist ing sound like a dumb idea i Don t think that this was a Well thought lit plan to help fix the retention problems in the Mili tary. I have often been told there is no such thing As a bad Soldier there Are Only bad Well Aren t we creating bad leaders by promoting soldiers just be cause they May be in a shortage of Mili tary occupational specially but then again who am i to say anything about retention anyhow staff sgt. This is not the first time i have seen this take place. My question is How does he get onto Patrick Henry Village i thought there Are Security measures to keep this from happening How do we know he does t have something to harm the people who live in that area. I really think this is a matter to be taken seriously. John h.
