The Home of Earl and Deb Huntley on country Lane in Rock experienced a Large amount of damage when a powerful wind system came through the area around 1 15 . The couples two barns were destroyed including an older barn that was demolished and a larger barn that was blown Over. Both structures Are total losses. One of their two Large hoop greenhouses was destroyed and another was severely damaged. Jon Benitt a meteorologist from the National weather service in Negaunee said this morning its possible a straight line wind also known As a microburst Likely moved through the area and caused the damage. No storm Survey had been conducted yet he said. Benitt said a microburst can create winds up to 100 Miles per hour which can be stronger than a weak Tornado. The meteorologist said a very Strong thunderstorm can turn into a microburst As it hits the ground and intensifies creating very Strong localized winds. Deb Huntley estimated More than a Hundred Trees had been blown Over or snapped off on their property including a Large tree in their front Yard which just missed hitting their two Story Home. The tree had to be Chain sawed to get in and out of the front door. The Hunt eyes two vehicles that were parked in the front Yard were damaged by the tree which had smashed a pickup truck Windshield and struck the passenger window on the other vehicle.
