Peoples drug store at 1208 Ludington st., was robbed at gun Point during business hours on july 9, 2014. After the robber was Given drugs he demanded the five employees working there escaped unharmed. Escanaba Public safety immediately responded to the emergency securing the building and evacuating the Block with the assistance of Delta county sheriffs department and Michigan state police. After interviewing the five employees and reviewing Security video a team of Public safety offi cers searched inside the pharmacy but did not locate the suspect described As at Large and armed and dangerous. Though police say they Are currently investigating a person of interest and have executed search warrants for phone and medical records officials continue to seek the Public cos help in identifying the Lone gunman from a recently enhanced video image. The enhanced photo shows at least two markings possibly tattoos on the Back of the neck. Trappers convention and outdoor expo. Event organizers and vendors agreed 2015s show is shaping up to be one of the Best yet in terms of attendance. Blight Grant to help beautify Manistique by Jordan Beck Manistique thanks to the $201,550 blight elimination pro Gram Grant recently awarded to the City by the Michigan land Bank fast track authority Manistique will soon be a safer better looking and More tourism Friendly Community according to City officials. According to a press release issued by the Michigan state hous ing development program which funds the Grant with Money from Michigan nos Home ownership Protection fund Manistique is one of 19 communities which has received Money from this Grant in 2015. The Cit yes application emphasized the positive Impact the Grant could have on Manistique especially in the aftermath of future Mark Manis to ques closure earlier this year. With the recent closure of the future Mark paper Mill in March 2015 eliminating 150 jobs and slashing Over $200,000 from the Cit yes tax base there be a better time than now to help improve the Cit yes landscape in strategic locations where economic development potential exists the application stated. Many of the properties which will be demolished Are located along us 2, though some others Are located in residential areas of Manistique. Its very important to have that us-2 Nice City manager Sheila Aldrich said. Aldrich also said the project is expected to raise property values in residential areas where blighted structures will be demolished. Among the properties targeted by the Grant Are the beachcomber Motel and Riverside school. The City is planning for All of the blighted structures covered by the Grant to be demolished by the end of the summer Aldrich said. This construction season were hoping to have them All done Aldrich said. The City of Manistique will lever age Money provided by the Grant with $20,000 of their own Money.
