Mayor Robert Selvig is expected to appoint his successor soon. Chief Babich was feted by Village officials at a retirement dinner held sept. 19 at Felix a restaurant in Riverdale. Babich and his wife jewel plan to move to Arizona in the near future. Department has instituted a narcotic division and an evidence technicians team As Well As the leads system. Babich added More men and women to the department new weaponry and a new Squadron the department now has a total of 18 officers including the chief with three sergeants. Sgt. Ward and Salomo were arrested by South Holland police sept. 5 along with two juveniles Ward and one juvenile were charged with rape and contributing to the delinquency of a child and Salomo was charged with assault. The four youths had picked up a 17 year old Hammond ind girl who said she had been hitchhiking thursday afternoon sept 21.
