It is True enough that As a Silver producing state it has been first among the real but since the fall of Silver the prospector has turned his attention to other minerals and each year finds new mining towns Spring ing up throughout the entire state and Nevada is fast forging ahead As a Gold producing state. Considerable excitement has recently sprung up owing to the very Rich strike at Donnelly Mountain last june. Donnelly Mountain is also known a division thus designated on the maps but it is More familiarly known to the Stock men of North is Ern Nevada a Donnelly Mountain. It was supposed to be on the divid ing line Between Humboldt and Wash of counties but last season surveyors decided that it is about four Miles East of that line and so is situated in hum Boldt county. Locating it from Surprise Valley it is nearly due East from Eagleville and about 7t Miles. The discovery of Donnelly Mountain is credited to a or. J. H. Murray who was at the time about june 20, 1902. Acting As Cook for the Vaquero outfit of the Gerlach company under the charge of their Foreman Raser. That there was hidden treasure in this Mountain has been believed by residents of Surprise Valley for years for a Good Many ago teamsters Weie passing that Way with bar Ley to the mines Oast of there picked up float it Wirtz on the Flats below the Mountain which showed free Gold. Or. Woods of Cedarville cal., has made several trips out there looking for the ledge but without Avail. The ledge As discovered by or. My Lay. Lid nol crop out. But was found Only about eighteen inches below the surface. The first Quartz showing Fie. Gold was plentiful covering sever in acres and below the ledge. The formation seems to be solid and there Are two distinct Granite running about North and South and farther up the Mountain about to son feet above the upper is a distinct ledge of run Nung parallel with the granites. With such a formation the experienced pros Pector is ready to begin Active operations. The original strike the Donnelly More particularly be de scribed As follows it has been uncovered 320 feet and has an average Width of 2 1-2 feet so far As explored. Its assays Are from 1500 to per ton. It lies immediately on top of the Sec Ond Granite ledge and immediately above is a Streak of red talc which is continuous and is the lining of the top Wall. The ledge has a dip of about 46 degrees. Other claims in the Mountain show excellent indications and Are giving Good encouragement to their owners. The Mountain was staked off last summer into mining claims and the coming season will Likely develop some Good properties. Messes. Hart and Ross of Amedeeh have some claims that Are showing up excellent indications. The company organized at new Pine Creek by or. James has just returned from the Camp and report very favor Able indications on their properties. Donnelly Mountain will be a Lively place this season and is Likely to be come one of the Best mining Camps in Nevada. It is of special interest to people of Surprise Valley As that would become the source of supplies for the Camp it being the nearest place and the Road from there to the Camp by Way of forty nine being practically a Good Road without any work. The Way South of Reno to Amedee is a very rough country and travellers going out or in from that Way have experienced much difficulty. Lack of water on the Way is not an inconvenience but one should know the drives in order to have no trouble. At the Mountain there is not an abundance of water but there Are a Good Many Springs which furnish water for Camp purposes. There is not sufficient for milling purposes How Ever on the Mountain. Donnelly Mountain like Many other new strikes imy prove to be a failure but the present indications Are certainly favourable and miners who wish to go there to Prospect and to see will find it to be As represented in this article. Towns should Donde Otobe Compromise re examined Carson and Virginia Are the next grand jury will called upon to Bur reconsider the the Hatchet. Case. From present indications Nevada will have two carnivals this season and both will take place on the same Date. People of Virginia bespoke the Date a year ago and Are now going actively to work to make that Occa Sion a Success. J the Appeal is lukewarm regarding i a carnival in Carson but the news is enthusiastic Over the coming event. I it states that is already pledged i and Only fifteen people have been seen. I the Carson people have undertaken the carnival despite Virginia s claim because the failed to stand in Carson two years ago and held a Celebration of its own on the fourth of july. The people of Reno e placed in a Peculiar position. They to at tend i n Gaspe the carnival either place it is to be held but if both towns per Sist in holding the Celebration Reno will not know what to do in the mat Ter of the bifurcated attraction. Both Virginia and Carson stood in splendidly with Reno and this does t want to slight either of those cities in the matter of attending and participating in the carnival. But it is impossible to be in two places at the same time. Besides if both towns hold carnivals both will be failures. It is hoped that the Hatchet will he buried and that both Carson and Vir Ginia pull together and hold but one Street fair. Reno and its morning paper will stand in provided the jealousies now manifested Don t reach extremes. O big show coming in the District court yesterday morning judge curler made an order holding Dondero under the Bonds originally Given until the charge of murder preferred against him and which was ignored by the late grand jury could be reheard by the next grand jury which meets in about three months. This action was taken on a motion made by the District attorney. There Aie rumours that sensational development Are in store. The ignore in gof the charge against Dondero has been a general topic of conversation and some serious charges have been alleged.
