L O N D O N. By Yefterday's French Mail we have Advice, that fix Ships were arrivM at Cadiz from the Spanifh Weft-Indies; one of which, valu'd at 250000!. Sterling, was boarded by a Britifh Man of War; but the Captain having thrown overboard all his Papers, &c. and nothing appearing to make her a good Prize, the Britifh. Commander fuffer'd her to proceed-on her Voyage. Letters from Paris mention, that the Court of France will have 150000 Men on the Mofelle in the Spring. Yefterday there was a Board of Admiralty, when their Lordfhips appointed Capt. Henry Norris, Son to Sir John Norris, to be Commander of the Jerfey Man of War, of fixty Guns, lately rebuilt at Plymouth. We hear the Marquis, of Tweedale will have the Green Ribbon of the Order of the Tbiftle, vacant by the Death of the late Duke of Hamilton. Yefterday was held a Court at Chrift's Hofpital^to examine whether the Children tp be prefented this Eafter be qualified for their Admiffion j at the fame time Admiral Vernon took Tiis Charge. The fame Day was held a General Court of the Gover-. nors of St. Bartholomew's Hofpital, for the Election ofa Porter of the faid Hbfpital, in the Room of Mr. Samuel Nafh, deceas'd, when Mr.Nicholls was chofen by a Majority on the Ballot, he having 62, Mr. William Barry'61, Mr. William Blandford 33 ; at the fame Time Admiral Vernon took his Charge, being nominated a Governor of the faid Hofpjtal.j and on-Thurfday next there will be held another Court, for the Election of a Treafurer, in the Room of Mr. Alderman Weftley j as alfo of a Clerk, in the Room of Mr. William Timms, who hath refign'd. Yefterday was held a General Court of the Governor and Company of the Bank of England, when a Dividend of 2 3 -fths per Cent, was agreed to for the Half-Year ending at Lady-Day next. The Dividend-Warrants to be deli ver'd on the 2jft of April. His Conveifadoh is fo agreeable, it pleafes all that fee him. He writes, draws Gentlemens Coats of Arms, and plays at Cards with his Mouth; with feveral other Performances too tedious to mention. He is to be feen by one or more, without Lofs of Time, from Ten to Eight, and no later. Canterbury, March 16. On Sunday laft-died the Rev. Mr. Owen Evans, at his Houfe on St. Martin's Hill. He was Vicar of St. Paul's above fixty Years, and Rector of Eimflon above fifty Years, and had formerly been a Minor Canon of this Cathedral. And if is to be obferved, that on Failure of fuch Payment of the above Rates, no Letters to_ fuch foreign Parts can be forwarded from this Office.
