Thursday at 6 . The Parade route will begin at the Cove state Bank and finish there. I he annual Parade will be highlighted by three events. I Hose Are the Bike decorating contest the mini float contest and a car decorating contest. These contests Are open to c operas Cove students and club organizations. For the car decorating contest. There will be a first prize of $10. A second prize of $7.50 and a third prize of $5. Ribbons and various gifts will be awarded to those winners in the Bike decorating contest. In the mini float category a first prize of $40 will be Given along with a second prize of $20 and a third prize of $10. A Bonfire and town Pep rally will follow Tho Parade at Cove City Park the Pep rally and Bonfire will be sponsored by chs cheerleaders. Staff photo Lover Ledger. Copperas Cove Hospital authority chairman announced thursday the Sale of Hillandale memorial Hospital to the authority had been finalized. The Hospital was purchased wednesday from the Texas conference association of seventh Day adventists for $650,-000. The Price was the same amount the adventists paid to Humana inc. Of Louisville by. The former owner of the Hospital. When the Purchase was made by the seventh Day adventists the Hospital was not immediately resold to the Cove group because of an authority commissioned audit of the financial records of Hillandale. That audit was completed in Early october Ledger said and proved satisfactory. Another Factor in the delay was the compilation of a prospectus which had to receive approval from the Texas attorney general a office. The facility will continue to operate under the same rate Structure As did Hillandale Ledger said and the religious group will manage the Hospital for the authority. Henderson accreditation study approved by school Board president Lonnie Walker called the Board of directors meeting of the Copperas Cove Independent school District to order at 7 30 tuesday night. First item on the Agenda was an acceptance by the Board of a resignation submitted by first Grade teacher Janet Copenhaver. A recommendation by superintendent Leland Frase to fill the vacancy at Mae Stevens with Deborah Reiffert was accepted. The subject of accreditation by Southern association of colleges and schools was broached by or. Frase As the next item to be discussed. He Cove youth Hurt in fall from car fifteen month old Eric d. Smith fell out of the passenger Side of a car in which he was Riding Friday morning at 410 Hill St. The car was backing up when Little Erie fell out hitting his head on the Concrete and the front wheel of the car ran Over him. As of Friday afternoon Erie was listed by Darnall army Hospital As being in stable condition. He sustained several broken ribs and some internal bleeding and was in Shock when he was transported to Darnall by palmers ambulance. Submitted that the Copperas Cove 1sd is the largest District in this area which is not accredited. In order to Complete a self evaluation program to work toward the accreditation committees would have to be established in order to conform the District to meet the standards set Forth by the Southern association of colleges and schools. Grades 7 through 12 will be the Only area working toward accreditation at this time. The study would not produce results until the Spring of 1978 As the study will involve at least a full year of hard work. Or. Frase feels that at this Point deficiencies in the school District Are not great. In answer to the question of Why the schools have not been accredited before or. Frase said that prior to this time facilities were lacking an insufficient amount of dollars was spent on each student because of non availability of funds and an inadequate Pupil to teacher ratio hampered a consideration for a credibility. Or. Frase added that the principals of both the Junior High and the High school were quite enthused. The Resolution was approved by the Board of directors to provide for accreditation of the Cove Independent school District. The Bills were presented and approved for payment. Or. Gerald Cumming was introduced to the Board As a representative for the Hughes gardens corporation. A request by the corporation for 50% enumeration of expenses incurred for land pave ment and curbing of Miranda St., which adjoins the new Elena entry school site was denied. Or. Cummings respectfully submitted a request for reconsideration. A report was brought before the school Board by . Carol Pennington on project open House which is a course in Home decorating sponsored by the Home economics department of Copperas Cove High school. The report was Well received by the Board and ended with a personal invitation issued by . Pennington for the Board members in attend the open House which1 will be held at 425 Jeffrey Lane. His report has not yet been received. The Board of directors then adjourned for a Short recess before going into executive session. Garrett who has been acting administrator of the Hospital since its Purchase by the religious group will continue at his Post. Ledger added. The name of the Hospital will be changed to the Copperas Cove Killeen Metroplex Hospital As a result of the Sale. It is now merely a matter of changing the sign in front of the facility Ledger indicated. The entire amount of $725,-000 in mortgage Revenue Bonds advertised by the authority were issued wednesday Bill Estes authority fiscal agent with Reynold securities inc. Of Dallas said thursday. Much of the excess Money left from the $650,000 Purchase was used in the Sale closing and expenses incidental to the Sale. The remainder is in an interest and sinking fund account to pay bonded indebtedness As it comes due. He explained. The amount of Bonds issued was to cover Only what the authority actually had to have to Complete the Hospital Sale. Purchase of the existing Hospital facility is not the end of the Road for the authority and it intends to build a new Hospital Complex on 27 acres of land on the Central Texas College Campus which came As a Grant from tin . Department of health education and welfare Ledger said he hoped to break ground on the site soon. Indicating such a move might be expected within 30 Days. Some site preparation work also will be done and now the authority is waiting for the final specifications on the new building. Estes said. The new facility had been planned As a 65-bed Hospital and the certificate of need issued to the authority specifies 65 Beds. However Estes said the authority is now looking to a possible 80-bed facility and will have to go Back before the Texas health facilities commission for reconsideration. No problem is expected in that area because the commission already had issued the 65-bed certificate to Cove As Well As a 65-bed certificate to Humana indicating the commission members saw a need for that Many Beds in the Copperas Cove and Killeen area. The Humana certificate was allowed to lapse. The Cove certificate which was issued in late August is Good for six months and requirements for keeping the certificate Are that some site preparation work and a show of Good Faith be made within the six month period. With the Purchase and operation of the present facility until the construction of the new Hospital which could be about two years Ledger indicated the transition from the old to the new would be smoother and Paster More blood expected in red Gross drive Bill Wood chairman of the local red Cross announced a blood drive to begin november 3 from 1-7 . At the Fellowship Hall of holy family Catholic Church. Last years drive netted 88 pints of blood but Wood said that in a Community the size of Copperas Cove Over 2600 pints Are possible. Wood also pointed out that for each individual donating blood an average of 14 others Benefit through the red Cross program to include parents parents in Law grandparents grandparents in Law and dependent children. The red Cross is a Volunteer organization governed by volunteers. Although a hired staff is necessary to implement some programs.
