Late from Konkle s Battery the surrender. At Munfordville. By letter from our correspondent with Konkle s flattery dated at Louisville sept. 20th, we learn some facts regarding the Battery which will be interest to the i friends the members. The Battery moved from Lebanon Junction monday the loth accompanied by the 60th and 68th Indiana for Munfords Ville where they fought All Day tuesday and were surrendered tuesday evening. Philip h. Lieutenant pilchard was Hurt about the hip ind shoulders but not dangerously he having fortunately fallen ate into a ditch and not non any solid e. We shall have a list the injured As soon is possible. From the 103d-- an Advance. Camp ky., sept. 18, 1862 editors Leader for several Days prior to last evening All was quiet in the quarters the 103d. Yesterday the it a cavalry skirmish beyond Flor ence i some eight ten Miles Distant Cut 4m into the trenches until 10 30, when we again returned to Camp. It is now said the enemy Are again the Retreat and that Only scouting parties the rebels Are near us. This morning we Are ordered to March with three Days rations and Are to now momentarily expecting the command " fall in " whither we go is Only known at Headquarters but we feel a Etuin hint the movement is not a retrograde one. I just saw a Wagon loaded with thirty thre e thousand rounds ammunition and our Cartridge boxes contain forty rounds to by the Man. This looks like fight and with out boast we sincerely Hope the indications Are not deceptive. We have Long enough been pent no by a few thousand shabby rebels and feel that it is High time we were showing to the world that we Are soldiers in fact As Well As in name. Let colonel casement have his Way and the rebels must keep Clear our path unless they come in Superior numbers which we have no present fear. I will write you when anything important occurs. D. General Hunter s Black regiments the White soldiers. The Hilton Nead correspondent the new York Post says the relations exist ing Between the White and Black soldiers in the department recently under general Hunter it it must be confessed however that to general Hunter s plan there was one great obstacle which had not been taken into account. I refer to the disposition evinced towards the poor negroes by the soldiers this army. Here we have something As bad As can Well be conceived something that should fill us with the deepest shame and sorrow. Whether it be that the Gene ral was somewhat too emphatic in his patronage the negroes whether it be Lic that the Northern soul As Here represented is utterly inverted and Dis humanized this subject certain it is that the Gen eral s course has occasioned some the to vilest and meanest Hexhi Vitious human depravity that it has Ever been my lot to witness. Many very Many the soldiers and not a few the officers have habitually treated the negroes with the coarsest and most brutal insolence Aud inhumanity never speaking to them them hut to curse and revile them to say Al manner evil them and to threaten and Impre Cate All manner evil upon them. Again and again have i been made thoroughly heart sic k at hearing tie unmeasured i Baldry profanity and indignity which have thus been spewed As if from the Gorge hell itself non these Uno fend ining people. God help them for i fear there is no mercy nor jus Tice for them in the White Man. And Gen eral Hunter s Earnest Benevolence towards them has but purchased for them ten fold returns cruelty and abuse from the sol Diers Bis command. Every act kind Ness in their behalf seems to be resented by these Savages the army As an intolerable affront to themselves. And. As the negro stands helpless and defenceless be fore them their miserable spite takes the Moat mean and cowardly Way venting Jug a ii up a my. A private letter from . Chas. Wright the gunboat Benton to his sister into Nester. In gives an amusing account an interview with a Lumberman up the. Yahoo River who had never heard the troubles about secession and received his first intimation that War was raging from cur forces the gunboat. He had been in the Gnu swamps for four years during Large portion the time he had not seen. Single human being. When he met our gunboats and heard the War he was much astonished As May Well be supposed. Fie was Bis Way at the time to Vicks Bur a to secure a Market for his lumber. Men meow Iliili vol. Xvi. Cleveland wednesday morning september 24, lab 2. No. 228. Cleveland september 19, 1862 Johm h. Klippart Secretary state Board act Critt be Sih the awarding committee Wool Ansel Roberts esq., Cleveland chairman state in their report the show Wool though not As Large As was expected was fair considering that most the Wool is now out the hands the growers. The show Delaine Wool is very file exceeding in Quality Send Desir obleness that any previous fair. The committee called Especial attention to the Saxony Wool belonging to . Hisey Columbiana Ohio. They also recommend As worthy attention the Cashmere Wool exhibited by the Granville Cashmere for its fineness and it May not be improper for me to state that several lots were delayed through neglect shippers until the duties the com Mittee had ceased although the Examina Tion was postponed one Day that each lot might be examined. One these clips should e especially noticed though not entered. It was sent by Charles Wood Smithfield Jefferson county Ohio. The clip is undoubtedly styled silesian by the grower. It May be regarded an improve ment from the a Xouy for the reason that has the Peculiar soft and desirable qual Ity the latter with an additional weight Picece which was in very Superior condition combining every feature and qual Ity which must Render value to the manufacturer Broadcloth which should pro Perly be termed Felting wools although Many the fleeces possessed decided Merit the manufacturer 1 Peskins and committees composed such manufacturers would have recommended the clip in the highest terms and when any considerable Quantity could lie obtained by Many our manufacturers growers would surprised at the High Price such grades would tiring compared to More Indin Erent wools and had the clip under consideration passed through the hands the com Mittee no doubt can be entertained but it would have been appreciated. Ii. Warner and Lucius Warner me Dina to county exhibited cassimere Wool Superior condition and Merit. Four Days attendance in the Wool department your exhibition has fully satisfied me the importance to adding this feature to your exhibition and furnish a medium by which growers and manufacturers May compare their views and make known their wants. Secure to yourself the full benefits it must be necessary for growers to encourage g. The Enterprise and by Large Quanti ties Choice wools you will attract manufacturers and when one thousand clips truly a Small number for Ohio exhibited and manufacturers receive notice to this effect one week before the time there will be no want buyers who would appreciate sufficiently to be in attendance. Many growers have not As distinct an object in growing the particular style Wool most required. They understand fully the varieties Saxony silesian Leicester Southdown a and been to deem it strictly necessary to procure and preserve what they term full b Ood whilst they would ascertain the particular style Wool in most demand for practical purposes and make the Cross Willi special reference to Felting Delaine cassimere combing wools much valuable information and wealth would be Der Hel fir both grower and manufacturer. I have presented tins important matter individual growers but fear that May years will have passed unless your slate Hoard persevere in their snorts already commenced. Growers have gathered some though limited information from compar no their samples now exhibition. As remarked by the awarding committee the specimens Delaine Wool were very Good. Whilst All styles Wooi May be imperfect used for Felting goods they discover that Only a healthy and Peculiar class Wool can be used for Delaine and so with cassimere and Doeskin. If proficiency in the Art manufacture g is desired it is necessary to make selections with reference to uniformity style for warps whilst the indifferent Broad Wool May be used for the tilling and there must ultimately be a very wide margin in the Price Wool grown with a View to consult the wants. The manufacture Delaine goods must grow into an immense business in this country. There Are at this time Only three Mills consuming about g,000,000 pounds a whilst that cassimere and Doe and has grown into business almost defying Competition from Europe. N Hile there is so Large a demand for Wool being created there should be a corresponding sire to meet those demands from the in at Tell Igent growers Aud breeders this country and through the influence the mate Board much May be accomplished. Had been my purpose to speak More fully other lots exhibited in View the length this has grown i will waive further notice. Allow me to commend an article exp in the d in the Wool Hall called extract tobacco for sheep Wash manufactured by the Southdown company who have examined it speak in terms its use to shepherds As a preventive to Hies and sheep ticks. The pub Sale was postponed the last Day the fair account the few manufacturers in attendance. Should the exhibition have a tendency awaken further interest with ultimate Success i shall have accomplished my Pur pose in Recomb coding it to your attention. Respect fully yours s. N. Goodale.
