Before it can Start program Ming the Cable company must first install the coaxial Cable that will carry the signals from the master Antenna to the subscribers television set. The process according to several Cable company representatives can take from six to 18 months. The first step after obtaining a franchise is to approach the Utility companies according to Barbara Rugg assistant director of corporate development for Cablevision of Chicago. A we have to sign agreements with Commonwealth Edison and Illinois Bell in order to put our cables on their poles. There has to be room made on the poles for the the cables must be placed 12 inches above the Telephone lines and 40 inches below the electric lines she explained. A if there a not 52 inches Between them they have to move the wires. We pay for any make ready work a she added saying Only that the costs for such work vary. After reaching agree ment with the Utility companies the Cable operators map out the franchise area noting the location of each pole a so we know How much Cable we have to Lay a Evans said. If a Community a utilities Are underground the Cable is installed in the underground conduits Evans said. The Cost of installing Cable underground is More expensive than stringing it on poles above ground he said adding he is unsure of the Cost.
