Dow Dips Below 700; 4-Year Low
CHICAGO CiKAIN QUOTATIONS Furnished by Lamson Brothers
NKW YOUK (AP)—The Dow J ones industrial average, a leading indicator of performance on the New York Stock Exchange, slid 17.83 points Friday to 686.80 — its first close under 700 since July 9, 1970.
It was also the biggest one-day drop in the blue chip barometer in nearly seven weeks. Hie main selling targets continued to be big-name glamour issues, which one analyst now calls “former glamours.”
The NYSK composite index,! a more broadly based market! index, fell 0.65 to 37.55, a rec-; Ord low since it was established in present form nine years ago.
Selling pressure was moderate, with volume totaling 13.59 million shares.
Analysts continued to blame pervasive concern over inflation, high interest rates and lack of confidence in the economy.

The council’s proposed budget for 1975 would jump to $590,000, including $15,000 in federal funds.
“We feel it is just as important to have cultural quality as well as industrial quality in Iowa, said Dave Albert, president of the Sioux City symphony.
