Deputation to Council regarding Lismore water scheme Council promises support further Steps to be taken messes. Forbes Mcdonald and Walker three residents of Lismore constituted a deputation to Fri Day s meeting of the Hampden Shire Council regarding the proposed water scheme for Lismore reports of which have already appeared in the Chron icle at various intervals. The gentlemen were introduced by or. Mcdowall who said they were re presenting the Lismore Progress association and were Here to place the views of the association before the Council. Or. Forbes said he Felt very much like a prisoner at the bar but thanked the Council for its interest in the proposed water scheme for Lismore due largely to the efforts of the coun cil. He appreciated very much what the Council had done and Felt that the scheme submitted by the Shire Engineer would meet All needs., but the suggested alterations by the water commission prohibitive. They realized that the Council could not impose a rate beyond 2/, and the amended scheme would mean a higher rate than that. He asked if it was possible for the Council to approach those in authority and secure a reversal of the water commission s officers disapproval of the scheme. They did not come to make suggestions to indicate their Earnest Ness and approved wholeheartedly of the scheme submitted by the Council. Or. Mcdonald or. Forbes has told you everything that is in the minds of the Progress association members at Lismore. If we have to go to the minister with a deputation we would like the support of the Council. We Don t want them to kill the Engineer s scheme which i think is being turned Down because they consider the rain fall would not be sufficient for the needs. That is ridiculous. Only once in the last ten years has the rainfall at Lismore fallen below 20 inches and it has been up to 30 inches. Or. Walker Lismore residents Are quite satisfied with the Engineer s scheme and a deputation to the min ister is the Only course now open. If the Council would give us assistance through or. Dimming. . 1 think that All could be accomplished. Or. Mcdowall one line to work on would be to try to set a larger cram from the commission. Failing thai the modified scheme would have to go through and even if the i Ost would entail a rate in excess of 2. The Engineer s scheme would have to go. Whether i am Here or not 1 can assure the association of the full sup port of the Council to have the scheme pushed on. Our first object should be to have the scheme carried out in its entirety said or. Mcdowall. Or. Forbes we would t ask the ministers to disapprove of their Atli cers scheme but to approve of the Engineer s. Or. Street the sch nip seems such a practicable proposition and after some discussion with the members it should be possible to arrive at some thing very close to the scheme that was originally anticipated. The coun cil will be Only too pleased to help. 1 believe a deputation to the minister would be advisable and we can t re commend our own Engineer s scheme without disagreeing with the one sub rotted by the commission.
