Outgoing Council members Richard Lowe and Bruce Rasco were recognized for their contributions to the Council. Neither sought re election in the recent race. Mayor Vera Calvin presented Lowe who had also been the City s mayor protein with a plaque. Rasco was not present to receive his plaque due to illness. City Secretary Jean Phillips administered the oath of office to returning Council member James Bailey and Calvin who were both re elected to Lite Council. New coun cil members Todd Pearson and Glenn Rose were welcomed and also took the oath of office. Council members nominated and elected Bailey As the City s new mayor Protem. Council members approved a motion to table action on ordinance b-490, granting a change in zoning to lots 2,3,4, Block i of die summer Crest addition from sf7, single family top parking 4-2 Calvin and Pearson against Rose a former planning and zoning commission member abstained. Calvin allowed Burleson resident Nona Mcgee to speak on the Issue although a Public hearing had been held on the Issue. The mayor said she was allowing discussion since she and Bailey were the Only Council members present at the May i joint Public hearing of the planning and zoning commission and the City Council. The request for zoning change was made by Burleson state Bank to allow the Bank to enlarge its parking at the rear of the building. Several residents expressed concern Over Mitchell s department stores of Burleson has occupied two Sites locally since it began operations Here Over 20 years ago. Now plans have been announced to move the store to a new location and although Mitchells has never actually been at this site it s almost like going Home again so to speak. The police department received information from citizens May i about unusual activity at the 533 Sandra Lane residence that involved showing minors pornographic videos. The bad investigated further and Learned that the Man allegedly had Given juveniles cigarettes and Beer showed pornographic videos and offered the juveniles pornographic magazines and marijuana.
