Vol. 54, no. 207 member Abc Bristol pa., saturday evening june 13, 1964 38 pages Price ten cents says sewer costs too Hig Middletown Kos interceptor line by Jim Ruark courier times staff writer the Bucks county water and sewer authority a Hopes for a Nesh Aminy sewer interceptor line in 1966 fell through last night As the Middletown township Board of supervisors refused to commit any customers to the project for an indefinite period of time. Robert c. Ruehl jr., chairman of the authority said that because Middletown with a potential 990 customers will not go along with the plan the construction Date for the sewer line has been a indefinitely indefinite Date this turn of events came about when the Middletown Board after a two hour discussion with residents and a 10-minute executive session said it had not reached a decision on the project and moved to table the matter to an indefinite Date. The decision which the county authority had asked for was a commitment of a certain number of customers to tie in in the next three or four years. The authority had been pushing for a Quick decision by the Board in order to have the sewer line available to the Nesh Aminy school District sometime in 1966. The school District has until monday to decide How it will provide sewers for the expanding senior High school near Langhorne and a new Junior Good look for some fireworks Between now and the Middle of july. Some of it of course to celebrate the fourth. But most of it from a Guy named Scranton. When William w. Scranton goes out after anything he goes All the Way. There a Only four weeks Between now and the convention he has a lot of running to do. And hell do it. The governor has one big asset so far Little publicized. Another result is that the authority May not get commitments from other municipalities for 2,300 customers which is said to be the minimum number for making the project economically feasible. Tho Nesh Aminy school District had promised $290,000 for the project and the Bucks county commissioners had offered a subsidy of $180,000 for the first 10 years. A keep trying Ruehl said that with the commissioners and so Many others behind the project the authority would a keep he said he considered the residents who turned out last night to protest the sewer line a Small percentage of the potential customers and said that possibly those who weren to there to speak Are willing to tie in. About 45 residents from the Langhorne Terrace and Parkland sections which Wero proposed for the project came to the supervisors meeting to protest the Cost of tie ins. Feasibility studies had placed the costs at $8 per foot assessment and about $88 for yearly rentals. At the outset of the discussion James l. Wright jr., supervisor chairman said t h e Board had a mixed feelings a seeing both a need for the interceptor a a and costs which Are too High for the he pointed out that if More Federal funds were available the Cost could be reduced to $6 per foot and about $60-65 yearly. But no More Public works funds Are appropriated now he said. Supervisor James l. Cahill said he Felt that it would be a mistake for the township to commit its residents without a guarantee of lower costs. He was applauded by the residents. The authority based its Appeal partly on the danger of increasing Stream pollution if a series of treatment plants Are built by individual municipalities along Nesh Aminy Creek.
