MANITOBA Children’s Museum l«a«i mn 924-4000 Investigators pull sunken tour bus from Ottawa River GATINEAU, Que. — Investigators pulled the amphibious tour bus Lady Duck out of the Ottawa River yesterday, taking it to a laboratory where they hope to find out why it sank and killed four people. The converted yellow Ford F-350 truck looked like it had just come through a car wash as salvagers hauled it onto the back of a large flatbed, five days after it went down in 12 metres of water. There was no visible damage to the vessel. The canopy covenng IO passenger seats behind the truck cab was intact, though several of the soft plastic windows were open or had been removed. Life preservers could be seen still attached outside and inside near the back of the vessel. The driver’s window was fully opened. “That’s as she was,” said Jim Hams, a spokesman for the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, the independent agency investigating the accident. “We haven’t touched a thing.” A 43-year-old mother from Montreal and her daughters, ages 13 and five, along with a 66-year-old nun, died after the vessel owned by Amphibus-Lady Dive Tours Inc. plowed under last Sunday. The same vessel was involved in a similar flooding incident last summer. It beached and there were no injunes. The board’s final accident report has yet to be issued but officials say the company made recommended modifications and met Transport Canada requirements.    —CP ;
