Visit us at Obituaries 01 in Memoriams 10 Coming Events 60 Personals 94 Skilled Help Wanted 105 General Help Wanted 115 GORRIE: On July 3, 2002, Elwood Clinton Gorrie died at Brandon Regional Health Centre. Elwood was born in Wawa-nesa on November 27, 1915 to Charles and Evelyn Gorrie. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Treva; daughter, Linda of Brandon; son Chuck and daughter-in-law Jocelyn and two grandsons Andrew and Kent, all of Victoria. Also surviving are one brother Jack and his wife Joyce Gorrie of Lethbridge, Alberta; also by numerous extended members of the Gorrie and McKellar families. Elwood was educated in Wawanesa. In 1939, he moved to Brandon and worked for Canadian Motors before accepting a position with Anglo Canadian Oils Ltd. He became Vice President in 1954 ending his career through several mergers with Gulf Canada retiring in 1974. Elwood was an enthusiastic and vital citizen of the Brandon and Clear Lake communities. In Brandon, he served as a member and chairman of the School Board, President of the Kiwanis Club and Governor of Toastmasters International. He served as Alderman and was elected Mayor of Brandon iii 1974. He was a lifetime member of Central United Church, serving in the Sunday School, Church Board and loved singing in the choir. Elwood had a special love of music since the days of playing in a band during the Depression. One of his favorite pastimes was entertaining playing his guitar. Elwood’s interests included wood carving and carpentry. As an active out-doorsman, Elwood enjoyed curling, golf, sailing, fishing and windboarding. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2(X)2 at 2:30 p.m. at Central United Church in Brandon. Rev. Joan Jarvis will officiate. Donations may be made in Elwood’s memory to Central United Church Memorial Fund, 327-8th Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 3X5, CN1B, 354-10th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4G1 or to a charity of choice.
