P. Quarles nominee for Justice on the supreme Bench on the Peoples democratic ticket and expressed Surprise that or. Quarles had made no answer to the charges. Or. Quarles spent thursday in Blackfoot and during his stay was approached by a news reporter and asked As to the truth or falsity of the charges. Replying he made substantially the following statement a the allusion in the Pocatello Tribune to the charges preferred against me by the bar association came to my attention at my Home in Salmon City on the 20th of this month and the article in the Tribune was the first intimation or notice that i had from any source whatever that any charges bad been preferred against me before the bar association or any other tribunal. I arrived in Blackfoot this morning and had an interview with or. Dietrich. He has written a letter to the Salt Lake Tribune in reference to the matter. Or. Dietrich showed me an affidavit made by one m. R. Stevens upon which the charges Are based. The affidavit of Stevens purports to set Forth a conversation which occurred Between John Miller sheriff of Lemhi county James j. Dowling a client of mine and myself at the county jail in Salmon City. The statements in the affidavit Are wholly of Lse As i will show in an address which will be made with affidavits from John Miller James j. Dowling and myself. Stevens a the Man who made the affidavit was at that time serving a term of imprisonment in the county jail of Lemhi county for the crime of Petit larceny. The letter of or. Dietrich and the statement which will be issued to the voters of Idaho in a Short time will fully explain the matter and the proofs which will accompany the address i feel will satisfy any reasonable unbiased if it be True then that charges base upon the affidavit of the Petty thief Stevens were filed before the bar association As far Back As in the month of March last and or. Quarles was Given no notice of them and Only Learned of them through a newspaper on the 20th of the present month in the closing Days of his Campaign it must be Plain to everybody that a great injustice was done him and that some one else should be called upon to answer and Tell where More of the a a unprofessional comes in the Case. Budlong took up the heavy questions of Lead and carried that along in his references to Silver the Silver mines and Silver coinage and produced figures to Bear him out in his statements. He charged capt. Gunn with misrepresenting the financial condition of the state. He said a that Gunn ought to be spiked a that the state was in an excellent condition and that he would like to be its chief executive. The col.
