Big Stone Gap Post (Newspaper) - September 11, 1918, Big Stone Gap, Virginia The Blackstone school for girls Are your an d Hose As just As sheer As Strong this _ v. As that Penn Sola a Enterprise John w. Edmonds editor and owner. A of Oman court House a. Entered at the poet Olyce at acc Otono o. A. Va., a second Clasa matter. Saturday August 14, 1909. Democratic ticket. For governor William h. Mann. For lieutenant governor j. Taylor Ellyson. For attorney general Samuel w. Williams. The names of the candidates placed at the head of our columns today Are the nominees of the democratic primary and it goes without saying that they will have our Hearty endorsement and will receive our Earnest support. They Are entitled to it because of the pledge we gave when we participated in the primary it is due to them for the still better reason that each and everyone of them is qualified to fill the position to which he aspires and will do it in Way that will be a credit to himself and in the Best interest of the people of the old state. The name of the nominee of commissioner of agriculture does not appear in the list with the others because the Choice of the candidate for that office is still in doubt and the contest Likely to follow. The name of this one will appear later which from the official count of the vote of the state is shown to be the Winner. And we doubtless voice in the above the sentiment of All the dec. Cratic voters of the Eastern Shore. As the news Leader an anti Mann paper says As a matter of political Good Faith we ought to Aid is we can in the election of the ticket the majority of our fellow citizens have seer fit to select. As a matter of business we should do All we can to avoid the disturbance confusion and obstruction to Progress that would be caused by the election of Republican state officers. Good humor Good sense Manly Frank and straightforward acceptance of the results of the game in which we have played magnanimity and Square dealing will solve All the Little problems left to us and carry us safely through All the dangers of dissension indifference and resentment remaining from the primary. Keller fair. Again for the 32nd year the management of a the old Keller fair comes before the people of the Eastern Shore of va., announcing that the Quot Eastern Shore agricultural association will hold an agricultural fair at which doubtless will be seen As select and As Nice a lot of agricultural exhibits As was Ever seen at any county fair poultry of All varieties hogs sheep cattle Colts and horses Sweet and Irish potatoes farm products innocent amusements novel ties of All kinds merry go round photograph and other things Ino deut to fairs with the objectionable Fea lures eliminated. Such exhibitions As you can safely take your wives children Aud sweethearts to see. The Delmar band will be on baud to enliven Aud entertain. All of the speediest horses of the a Peninsula will be there to do their Best and to scatter the premiums Here and there on the Eastern Shore and not to the a four winds of the Earth. Thus far the Outlook is Fine for Good fair and a Large attendance. Sweet potatoes Are going like hot cakes at fancy prices and Money will soon be flowing like water. The grounds Are now being repaired and renovated and More seats than Ever before will be scattered throughout the Shady Grove for the Comfort of both the Young and the old the sporty and lovers of Speed can find Comfort in the grandstand. Now is the time to prepare and Send to the Secretary a list of your articles for exhibition so As to have your cards by mail thereby saving time and confusion on the tuesday of Aud monday preceding the fair. Please remember this. One lady has already reported Over one Hundred exhibits.
