Y., thursday August 22, 1963mets Dick Cole named manager of year in Nyp Bazinet Pavlus Locke gain berths on All Star first team by Leo Pinckney a a sports editor the new York Pennsy Vania class a baseball league has honoured Auburn mets1 manager Richard Dick Cole by naming him manager of the year in the annual poll of sportswriters managers and official scorers. 1963 Nyp league All stars pc old timers scores Hole in one sharing honors Wilh the Metsy hard working skipper Are outfielder Rick Bazinet shortstop John Pavlus and Southpaw Pitcher Ron Locke who were selected to the All Star team of which Cole was named manager. The first and second team All Star squads were announced today by Vincent m. Mcnamara league president. Cole who is in his second season As manager of the mets was elated today when the citizen advertiser sports department gave him the Good news. A a it a one of the nicest things that Ever happened to me in 20 years of organized baseball a the former major league infielder remarked. The 36-year-old manager played with the St. Louis cardinals Pittsburgh pirates and the Milwaukee braves in the majors. He also played with Rochester and Indianapolis. A resident of Williamson w.va., Cole was one of the to rotating coaches used by the Chicago cubs in 1961. He joined the mets organization in the Spring of 1962. Bazinet is the player coach of the Auburn club and is a two Vear Veteran Here. He won the Topps award for the player of the month in May. This is the second year that he has been named to the All Star first team. He has hit 23 Home runs this year and has 90 Bis. Rookies Pavlus and Locke Are rated among the top prospects in the new York mets organization. Locke has a 15-8 record and has struck out 225 batters in 194 innings. He has allowed just 50 walks. Pavlus is one of the classiest fielders to Ever play at Falcon Park. Many managers agree that he has a a major league gloves and once his hitting improves he will move up the ladder fast. Pavlus hitting has improved steadily in the last couple of weeks and he is currently batting around the .250 Mark. Auburn also landed three players on the second All Star team. Alan al Feldstein Peppery second Sacker who swings a Quick Bat was named to the second base Post. He is hitting .304 and has been above the .300 Mark All season. Catcher Bill Boyce who is out of action at the present with a leg injury was picked As one of the catchers on the second squad. I Boyce who performed Yeoman i work behind the plate when he was the Only Catcher available for sometime was hitting .276, including la Home runs when he was sidelined. Frank Griffith was named the left handed Pitcher on the second team. Griffith has the second Best earned run average in the league with a 1.91 for 16 games. He has an 8-3 pitching record. The Young Southpaw also played with the mets last season and had a 7-7 record. Batavia Smorris buddy Hancken was named coach of the year. The players were selected on the basis of three Points for first two for second and one for third.
