Local kids are extras in ‘Hannah Montana film with Miley Cyrus

Gubernatorial candidate Davis visits Athens
Alabama Congressman Artur Davis, D-Birming-ham, chats with Judy Wilson, president of Chapter 1480 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees, at a meet and greet reception Saturday at the Limestone County Water Building.

Charged with child abuse in beating of daughter, 6

A trial wall be June 27 for an Ardmore mother and her boyfriend, w’ho were charged wath felony child abuse tor allegedly spanking her 6-year-oId daughter so severely it left bruises on her buttocks and legs, records show.
Melinda Leigh Barnes, 29, and Kevin Bruce Bennett, 32, both of 29775 Elkw'ood S(?ction Road, w'ere indicted in November by a Limestone grand jury.
Barnes and Bennett have pleaded innocent to the charges. Their trial is scheduled to be held in Limestone County Circuit Court. The time will be announced.
An Ardmore schoolteacher first detected what she believed was abuse.
When the girl kept fidgeting in her seat at school, her teacher asked if something was wrong, said Limestone County Sheritf’s Chief Investigator Stanley Mc-Natt.

More prison land up for grabs; local doesn’t sell

The Alabama Department of Corrections announced Friday nine more parcels of prison land for sale across the state; meanwhile 4(K) acres is still up tor grabs in Limestone County.
Ttie acreage at Limestone Correctional Facility Tjvas put up for bid in February but DCX? spokesman Brian Corbett said it did not sell.
“At some point in the iuture it will go out for bid again,” Corbett said Friday. I le did not have a date.
