In the wake of the slayings Tuesday of four family members in Lauderdale County by the estranged husband of one of the victims, a local psychology professor says society is “losing its ability for frustration tolerance.” Mark Durm, an Athens State University instructor, said because of early childhood training, when adults don’t get what they want they react with “knee-jerk hostility” While Durm said there are “undoubtedly many other variables” when someone goes on a killing See Analysis, page 3A ‘We’ll have an angel in the outfield’Murders stun tiny community NEWS COURIER/KELLY KAZEK NEWS COURIER/IVAREN MIUULLIUN The brick foundation was all that remained after a fire destroyed Kevin Garner's home off Old Somerville Road in Priceville. At first, firefighters and law enforcement personnel thought Garner's remains were inside, but a body was spotted in a wooded area 200 yards south of the home. Morgan County Coroner Russ Beard said the body had been sent to the state forensic lab for an autopsy, but said he had no reason to believe the body was not that of Garner. Law-enforcement officers survey the scene where a man fatally shot his estranged wife, his daughter, his sister and his nephew early Tuesday morning in Greenhill, about 35 miles west of Athens in Lauderdale County. It is the eighth mass shooting nationwide and the third mass killing in Alabama in the last month, according to the Associated Press. Before the sun began to set Tuesday, Chelsie Garner's teammates tied her softball cleats and batting helmet to the top railing of the bleachers at Rogers High School in her memory. Blue balloons lifted skyward and a pink ribbon bore the words "In Loving Memory, Chelsie Garner #21, RHS Softball.' " . ■■ ■ • • .
