Assumed TryAt LeniencyBackfiresBias Arzabal, 31, allegedly a major heroin dealer in Oxnard, was turned down Monday in his attempt to withdraw a ‘■guilty”plea that could send him to prison for life.Arzabal had pleaded guilty May 1 of receiving stolen property the previous December and selling heroin April 25. Apparently he had hoped that a plea bargain, with some charges dropped, might bring him a lighter sentence, but a deputy probation officer later recommended that he receive the maximum term of prison up to life, with a minimum of three years before parole.Ventura Superior Court Judge Robert L. Shaw, at the hearing Monday, refused to lielieveArzabal was confused or telt coerced at the time he pleaded guilty to the two counts.Arzabal’s wife was ninemonths pregnant then, andfacing charges herself. But Judge Shaw noted, for the record, that the baby was Ar-zabal's eighth, and he was notunaccustomed to expectant fatherhood.The judge scheduled sen* fencing June 12.
