Arlington Heights Daily Herald (Newspaper) - May 2, 1980, Arlington Heights, Illinois Kelish salads at Hedon place he Leo Iliof i i Lucky Fri by i of Jmc daily Herald restaurant Sampler what Hedon place ltd., Schaumburg does Well it does wonderfully. Deep Fried vegetable appetizers $2.25 Are every munchers dream. Large steamy fresh mushroom chunks and tender Sweet onion rings encased in Crisp thick breading Are Jam packed into a Basket big enough for four. There a also Fried Zucchini $1.95. The recently revamped salad bar $3.95 ordered alone is for tossed salad aficionados. Take your hefty chilled Pewter plate and visit this 35-item salad bar that requires a special room for display. Start with a Choice of fresh spinach or iceberg lettuce. Select from items like Green or italian peppers fresh bean sprouts radishes red onion slices celery Sticks Carrot or Cucumber slices and Cherry tomatoes. Now move around this salad artists palate and mix in a few mushroom slices Garbanzo Beans whole tiny beets grated Parmesan and diced Cheddar cheese Black olives kidney Beans and chopped egg. For the next layer serve yourself Macaroni salad or Cole Slaw marinated Cucumber and Tomato slices or eggplant with a touch of oregano fruit salad or cottage cheese. Top All this with Bacon bits the imitation kind Croutons and your favorite dressing. On the Way to your table Cut a hunk of yeasty bread. Unfortunately Only a crust remained under the warmer on the night we visited. House special Comstock ribs $8 95like All entrees come with salad bar and a Choice of baked potato seasoned Rice or mixed vegetables. A generous slab of tender succulent pork ribs boasts a pleasantly tangy almost vinegary Barbecue sauce. The ribs were definitely Finger Licking Good and the waitress knowingly delivered a warm wet Towel with a Lemon wedge for proper cleanup. I appreciated this much needed service but suggest the waitress deliver the Towel toward the end of the meal so it would still be warm when the Patron uses it. Mine had become cold and Clammy. The twice baked potato ordered with my ribs was inside shrivelled and crusted on top from being too Long in the oven. My dining partner ordered another House specially veal Oscar Ala Hedon $10.95. Two flavorful veal scallops came topped with fresh asparagus and crab meat All splashed with a wine Cream sauce. Disappointingly the crab was Bland and Only lukewarm and the wine sauce tasteless. Spiced Apple rings Are overused As Garnish with almost everything at Hedon place. Their red colouring and spicy flavor annoyingly Combine with other plate items. We also tasted the Rice Side dish served beneath stuffed mushrooms $3.95 As an appetizer. Flecked with red and Green Pepper the Rice was More flavorful than the mushrooms containing tasteless bread stuffing and a Bland cheese Topping. These along with the Rice were much too heavy to be a satisfying first course. Other Hedon place dinners include sirloin Steak $9.95prime rib of beef $9.75crab legs $10.95 and red snapper Veracruz $7.95. Fri Ald featuring Hedon place ltd., 2400 n. I Block West of route 83 Algonquin re i m Cash h in Deborah Hartz Bill of fare style cheesecake $1.95 was Rich and smooth As expected but not outstanding. An Apple dumpling a la Mode $1.95 was so attractively served that it was virtually impossible to eat. The Doughy dumpling topped with whipped Cream ice Cream and a cloying cinnamon Flavoured syrup just fit into a Pedesta led Goblet. As the hot dumpling melted the toppings they poured Over onto the plate. A larger bowl would enable the Patron to Cut into the dumpling without sending cascades of goo Over the sides of the Goblet. Atmosphere is another of Hedon place Strong Points. Seated in a Garden room you Dine under a private Gazebo or at wrought Iron table and chairs. Globe Street lamps tile floor and lots of greenery in a terraced room create an enchanting private environment. When entering the front Hall we were surprised to see a Christmas tree still standing. This we were told remains year round and serves As a cardholder at every Holiday including easter St. Patrick a Day and Valentines Day. Once inside leave the world at the door and enjoy those things the Hedon place does Best.
