Y. W. C. A.a youth asset editorial by Ben Ogden principal of the Ardmore High school i should feel ungrateful if i did not express to the citizenship of Ardmore my feelings toward the recent program of the y. W. C. A., As it touches the lives of our High school boys boys and girls. If the Community is not aware of this program it should investigate. In the first place the y. W. C. A. Building is the Headquarters of hundreds of girls of school age ranging from fifth graders through the seniors in High school. These girls Are called girl reserves. Their program promotes modesty decency Grace and reverence in adolescent girls. No one can estimate the Good that comes from this girls movement. The Quot girl reserves is the a boy scout movement among girls. But by far the most outstanding recent movement for the youth of this Community is what is commonly called a High school night at the y. W. C. Here our High school boys and girls Are free to gather each Friday night for a two hour social and recreational program. The greatest value of this program is its wholesome democratic atmosphere. Last Friday night i watched the program carefully. There is no a class consciousness in the recreational Hall. I saw the son of the laundress and the timid girl of the lean to Shack playing Side by Side with the sons and daughters of families of wealth and influence unconscious that there could Ever be any serious class problem. Cleanliness decency and acceptable manners Are the Only yardsticks used to measure participation in this wholesome City wide program. Lists it values and what does it do for our youth you May ask Here Are some of its additional values 1. It furnishes a free social and recreational program where boys and girls May have an inexpensive evening of wholesome recreation. 2. It takes Many boys and girls out of the roadhouse environment and places them in a democratic Well chaperoned Semi religious atmosphere. 3. It relieves the families of the dread of what to do with the son or daughter who enjoys dating on weekends by furnishing a wholesome and inexpensive p Ace to go. 4. It promotes Grace Good manners and Temperance. 5. It is so Well managed and organized that the ruthless indiscreet and Unco former cannot enter and thrive. 6. And finally using the words of a prominent High school boy who has been in organizing this program a i did no to know people could have As much fun in a mixed group As we have at the a a a Friday night hats off the Community should shout. Hats off to the program of the local y. W. A a., the one and Only place in Ardmore wholly dedicated to the welfare of Ardmore a youth.
