Having copied the letter of this gentleman front the Baltimore Sun of the l Atli or 20th Ultimo we arc constrained give place the following reply it also regretting however the controversial character the affair has assumed. The writer of this letter is the attorney general of Pennsylvania Silt in a letter dated the 18th instant addressed governor Johnston by the Rev. J. S. Gorsuch of Washington which the writer thought tit publish without waiting for any reply or explanation he assailed the governor in the most vindictive terms Aud imputed him Aud me inactivity and Gross dereliction of duty in regard the murder of his father near Christiana in a subsequent card dated the 2oth instant he retracts and apologises for his charges against me but takes occasion reaffirm his offensive imputations upon the governor. 1 cannot consent be placed in a different position in reference this matter from governor Johnston upon consultation with whom All the Steps have been taken consequent upon the lamentable affair and in pursuance of whose suggestion 1 took part in the investigation. If As Tho writer now acknowledges 1 have proved my loyalty the Constitution and Laws my Zeal for the vindication of Public Justice the governor is also entitled the credit which belongs him of having placed it in Iny charge us a matter of Public duty. The course pursued by the Rev. Or. Gorsuch has been most extraordinary Aud a reference the dates of Tho transactions May afford some clue the motives which have actuated and the influences which have prompted it. The murder of or. Edward Gorsuch took place on the morning of thursday the 11th inst. A number of arrests having been made of persons suspected of participation in it a hearing of the Case was fixed before Alderman Reigart for tuesday the a Atli inst., at 11 o clock a. M. At the time appointed 1 appeared in behalf of the Commonwealth prepared assist in taking part in the investigation. The Rev. Or. Gorsuch was thou present 1 was made acquainted with him he was apprised of Niy connexion with the Case and 1 had considerable conversation with him on the subject. In consequence of the absence of witnesses the bearing was postponed tues Day the 2th inst. Could not have been prompted by any thing which occur red on the second hearing. The Hood of life which is now Rushing from the crowded haunt of civilization in search of food or Freedom will 111 time spread itself Over the lands now preparing for its reception and there will be no spot of Earth from which the voice of gratitude and Praise does not Rise. The great features of the Earth Are doubtless permanently modelled. Its everlasting Hills its boundless continents its swelling seas Aud its mighty Rivers May be fixed and immutable but its Barren Steps its interminable deserts its wildernesses of Wood and of Sand must yet smile with vege tation and swarm with life. The Dilovian wave May yet spread Over arid Plains the Rich Sedi ment which it bears. The Volcano May yet cover with its erupted the very regions which it has scorched and its lava Stream May turn the irrigating current which it stems Over the Barren Plains which have been swathed by its fires.
