Discoverer II Nears Fiery End INGLEWOOD, Calif., April 22 The Defense De- partment announced last night that the .polar-orbiting Discov- erer II satellite launched April will probably burn up in the earth's atmosphere lale Satur- day or Sunday. The satellite's radio beacon stopped sending signals Mon- day night, but observers in the Atlantic "have sighted Discov erer II visually lor the past two or three days on almost every the Ballistic Mis- sile Division said. Marilyn Moore, a seventh grader at Raton Junior High School, will represent Colfax County Schools. Her prize for winning the county contest is an expense paid trip to Albuquerque given to her by the sponsors, The Raton Daily Range. Horseback Rider The champion speller is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E N. MARILYN MONROE and her bosom companions TONY CURTIS I rummy Moore of Raton. Her interests are reading, horseback riding, collecting recipes and swim- ming. She plans to study ani- mal husbandry to become a rancher. "Control" was the' winning word for Marilyn. Placing in the contest were Owen Little- ton of Springer and Kalhryn Stark of Raton, both eighth graders. William Lewis (Billy) ley will represent Zuni Ele- mentary School. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. N. Kirtlej of 2732 Florida NE, and is in the sixth grade. Undecided about his future goals, he has several curren interests including electric trains, horses and drawing. Billy spelled "kindness" cor rectly in the bee. Second and third place went to Don Caugh (ran, and Greg Bledsoe, both sixth graders. San Unacio Winner San Ignacio School winner is I John Romero, son of Mr, ant I Mrs. Hilario Romero, 402 Gomez NE. An eighth grader, he has do cided to be a teacher. In his Comeback Reported For Prairie Chicken Ry NORMAN, n Oklahoma indicates that the lesser prairie chicken, abun dant game bird early in this century, can make a comeback instead of becoming extinct as the heath hen did in years past. The lesser prairie chicken thrives best in regions where the soil is too sandy or shallow to cultivate successfully, said Parrel!
