In both surveys the postal service is meeting or exceeding its goals for local and Cross country mail but failing to achieve the goal for regional mail. The postal service strives to get 95 per cent of first class Trail delivered overnight when the letters have local destinations in two Days when they Are bound for regional destinations within 600 Miles and in three Days for Cross country mail. In both surveys test letters were mailed and the recipient asked to note the time of arrival before sending a form Back where the time of the return trip was also clocked. In this area the Tribune a letters achieved one Day service in both directions to Clarks Grove Austin. Wells Mankato Rochester and St. Paul. It took one Day for a letter to get to Glenville but two Days for the return trip. A similar situation was found with Duluth with the trip there taking two Days but the return to Albert Lea Only one Day. It took two Days for a letter to go from Albert Lea to Clear Lake Iowa and one Day to return. In the Survey by the Tribune a Washington Bureau test letters were mailed to 50 newspapers in 26 states served by the Bureau. Of those letters a7 per cent were delivered in two Days both regionally and across the country. Ninety five percept of Cross country mail was delivered in three Days or less thus meeting the postal service goal. But Only 85 per cent of regional mail going no More than 600 Miles achieved two Day delivery thus missing the 95 per cent goal. Numerous letters bettered the postal service goal with 75 per cent of Cross country mail making it in two Days and 15 per cent of regional mail making it in one Day.
