A we understand that Norman Whitman has purchased a Barber shop at Hartland and will move to that place next week. A our townspeople take great interest in keeping their lawns in excellent condition but some allow the Street in front of their residences to become covered with rubbish. A misses Maude Emerson and Leona Ostrander returned monday evening from Aloert Lea where they had been visiting with Young friends and attending the E. Convention. A miss Mamie Johnson came Home from her school duties at Wells Friday evening Aud remained until saturday with her parents. Or. And mrs. C. S. Johnson. A the pupils of the High school will enjoy a picnic at the Point near Freeborn Lake next Friday. A Road grading has commenced and the gravel is being taken from the new Sand Piton g. A. Swan s farm East of town a Thomas Blackmun. The prosperous Farmer just East of town raised a much needed new wind Mill on his place this week. Or and mrs. Erhardt Siemssen were Down from Owatonna wednesday to attend the marriage of or. Siemssen is sister. A owing to so much Grain coining in at the Mill for grist the company has decided to run night Aud Day for a couple of weeks at least when it is thought the big Rush will be Over. Hanson the contractor and builder this week secured the contract for the erection of a new farm residence for j. P. Skov Northwest of town the main part is to be 24x28-18ft. A Willis Jenks returned to Alden last thursday evening to remain at Home for a week or More and to spend his Twenty first birthday which occurred tuesday at Home. He received Many valuable presents from his relatives and friends among which was a gift of fifty dollars from his parents. During the Day his Mother arranged with several of the Young people to Surprise Willis at Home in the evening and it was faithfully carried out twelve or fourteen couple being present. Progressive Ero Kinole was the amusement and miss Addie Burton and Guy Larson succeeded in carrying off the head prizes Millie Warlock and Emil Jacobson were awarded the Booby prizes. After the games were Over ice Cream cake and fruit were served and before departing All extended their hands in congratulation to Willis and wished him Succes in the future. A the grand jury at the county seat the past week returned four indictments against James Casey who forged some notes at Alden recently. A next thursday and Friday will occur the annual convention of the Freeborn county sunday school association in the m. E. Church of Albert Lea. A Fred Holway and o. O. Briggs went to Albert Lea wednesday evening to take a few degrees with the masons. They returned Home thursday morning. A mrs. Geo. Tunell and Little daughter who have been visiting with the Germain and Swan families for some time past returned to her Home at Minneapolis monday. A while Oliver Howe was Riding a horse thursday morning the animal became unmanageable and running into a Post threw the rider to the ground breaking his right leg just above the knee. I irs. Watson and Emerson were called Aud set the injured member. A the Council has decided to put in a Stone crossing from hotel Hazle to Hall s store and if it gives satisfaction they will put in Stone Crossings exclusively on Broadway and main Street. Henry Hanson who underwent an operation last week is even better than the doctors who performed the skillful operation dared Hope for. Or. Anderson the Blacksmith has completed the making of the Bird for the Dane shoot to be held june 5th it will be put in place next Friday. To those who do not know what the Bird is made of or How it looks we might say that it is a heavy piece of Wood made in the shape of a Bird and mounted with heavy steel plates twelve in number each plate is numbered and draws a prize. The breast plate is the most important piece and it takes several hours to shoot the heavy steel Down and whoever is the Lucky one is King for one year. A report of what the societies were doing in the District was read and miss Yates read the report of this society and stated that it had 25 members and that �83.50 had been raised and something like �50 sent to the India sufferers. In the reports the total amount raised by whole District was �99.50, of which amount the Alden society had raised �83.50.
