Iii mum my Survey reveals fewer users than even kids believed drug abuse in schools not As bad As reported drug abuse by secondary students in Alamogordo Public schools though of significant proportions and a cause for concern is not As prevalent As earlier reports indicated according to the results of a Survey conducted last May say or. W. Paul Jones and Stanley Gill director of the youth counselling Center. The Survey reveals 15 per cent of students have used marijuana More than five times and two per cent have tried heroin. A summary of the Survey was prepared for the youth counselling Center and Gill reviewed the findings for the Board of education during the past week. A total of 2.875 students More than 50 per cent of the 4.221 students in grades seven through 12 in the latest count were sampled through an Anonymous questionnaire method. Responding to three questions were 1.018 at Chaparral Junior High 521 seventh and 497 eighth graders 1,147 at mid High 614 freshmen and 533 sophomores and 708 at Alamogordo High school 385 juniors and 324 seniors. Answers were based on these three categories reflecting the percentage of the student body in each a never used a a less than five times and a More than five included in the Survey were tobacco alcoholic beverages marijuana amphetamines barbiturates Ltd heroin and glue. Plunge into Canyon spares napping Driver a Driver escaped injury Early saturday morning when his car rolled Over a 250-foot embankment just West of the old Railroad trestle on the Cloudcroft Highway. State police records said passing motorists first alerted officers to a 1967 Pontiac parked across the Highway and reported that the Driver appeared to be asleep. Marshal Rex Briscoe receiving word of the parked vehicle went to the scene but found the car had vanished. Following a search Briscoe said he located the car at the Bottom of the Canyon with the Driver. Joe l. Man Villas 26, of Cloudcroft still asleep behind the wheel but uninjured. Wrecker Crews were called to the scene but the depth of the Canyon made removal of the vehicle too dangerous until morning officials said.
