Aiken Standard (Newspaper) - May 6, 1993, Aiken, South Carolina Page 4 Aiken Standard, Aiken. S.C., Thursday, May 8.1993 Picking Winners Not Easy By NINA J. NIDIFFER Staff Writer Selecting winners for the "Draw Your Mom” contest wasn’t easy. There were lots of drawings, paintings and collages that were real pieces of art. Only three winners could be selected in each category, but other young artists who entered the contest deserve recognition. Camille Dorothy Miles, 7, of 1679 Partridge Drive, Aiken, made a multi media picture of her mother hanging clothes on the line in the summer sun. Each item of clothing was carefully attached with its own clothspin. Jacob Cauley, 6, of Oak Drive, Beech Island, gave his mother long hair, high heels and a bright purple dress in his picture. He included a caption that said his mother is special be cause “she lets me color and she lets me go to my friend’s house and play.” Leslie Henson, 6, of 129 Croft Mill Road, Aiken, drew her mother in a bathing suit, enjoying the sun and surf. Chad Reynolds, ll, drew a carefully detailed picture of his mother working in a computer lab. Every screen and printer is complete, right down to the keys on the keyboard. His mother is seated behind a desk. Chad’s address is unavailable. Airron Blessing, 14, of 650 Silver Bluff Road, Aiken, made an intricate collage of his mother. Each tiny snipping of paper was carefully placed and glued before the whole picture was protected behind clear plastic. Kellen Rich, 5, of 210 Knox Avenue, made a crayon picture of her mother planting flowers in a garden. Brandy Blocker, 9, drew a crisp, spare image of her mother with huge brown eyes and short black nair. Brandy’s address is unavailable. First-grader Christopher Eason made a very bright picture of his mother surrounded by trees. He included not one, but two pages describing his special mother. The entries in the “Draw Your Mom” contest are on display in the lobby of the Aiken Standard. v 'X J I* ({ft : lit ' if ill'    ' 'N I1 if hi J' I '' i ii I % ' , A it I IV. ->    •    / 11 M v    \ . \ V, iii i f:    •    rf    V\ ii 11 hi M a r• • I h1' ' ■ ■ ^ " N; /$ N' •v\Y \ c 9 •• Cr^ Toccara Samuel of Aiken won third place in the age 9-12 division. *    'BecauseMothers Sire So ‘Extremely %are We, at SA. ‘family Affair, think, they deserve a gift Befitting their uniqueness.
