Dick Williamson promoter. ? Segar wins out Points Daniels interesting preliminary bouts it was certainly expected that a much larger crowd would have been present at the Ulcy stadium on monday night than was the Cas however by the time the principals in the night s main event entered the ring the House was not so bad As it appeared earlier. Daniels was the first to enter the ring and he looked to be in line fettle for the contest. Is was soon afterwards followed by Segar who also showed that he had faithfully trained for the event. This was Sej Arar s second appearance in the ring since he won the state middleweight title from ted Monson. Daniels was the heavier of the two tipping the beam at 11.6, whilst Segar Isdo. 11 Stone dead. As advertised the bout was Over Twenty two minute rounds. Or. Chris Constantino was the third Man in the ring. Although the contest went the full Twenty rounds scheduled it cannot be said that at any time it sparkled with any brilliance it was a contest very tame to watch and never at any period of its Progress caused fans the least bit of excitement. Segar boxed Well and confidently and More or less had Daniels puzzled As to what to do and How to do it. The Long twirling arms of Segar always on the go presented an awkward defence to Daniels. The latter did not make the Best of his own height and weight. He was too much inclined to adopt a Low Crouch which really played into the hands of Segar in getting Home the Lead. Daniels would Spring up and Forward with a left aimed at Segar s head followed by a right either also to the head or the body. Segar had no difficulty in beating Daniel s telegraphed left Lead Ana nine times out of ten he Segar got heme his left a couple of times before Daniels hed regained his balance. It was really a wonder that Daniels did not drop one Low on Segar because of his Peculiar Crouch. As a matter of fact he was cautioned by the referee one2 for a breach in this respect Early in the bout. Right throughout the contest there Vas too much in fighting and or. Constantine had to be continually at them to break. Segar made Good use of his Long left. He also a lord than held his own when they came ii close but most of his punches lacked sting. Daniels on the other hand put a Good Deal of weight into his blows and used both hands to advantage. But in them in he was outfoxed by Segar throughout. The two minute rounds and so much scuffling and alleged in fighting robbed the contest of much that should have been put into it from a boxing Point of View. Segar showed up very Well and was possessed of every Confidence and was at All times prepared to mix it with Daniels. The jut scr has been seen to much better advantage in Adelaide and there is no doubt that he was on monday last just a Little below his Best form. The decision 111 Segar favor was Well received. It was looked upon As a foregone conclusion that he Only had to stand up to get the Points decision. Never at any stage in the bout i d it look like being ended by a. Knock out. Three Good prelims. It is a very Long time since three such Good preliminaries were staged at the Unley stadium. The second one in particular Jack Darcey 10.5, and Sam Johnson 9.6 proving very exciting and thrilling. It brought Forth a great round of sustained applause from the spectators. Darcy made every use of his advantage in weight and packed a Good Wallop in both hands. He went at Johnson in a manner that threatened the latter s downfall at any moment. He smashed Home rights and lefts which made Johnson wince. Although More or less swept off his feet by the Force of Darcy s attack Johnson kept his head and fought Back in such a Way thai it checked Darcy a Good Deal. Johnson found his left a very useful weapon and the manner in which he sent it Home to Darcy s nose and the number of times it got there brought Forth the Ruby. In addition Johnson also possesses a Good right hook., and this also did a Good Deal in. Checking Darcy s furious attack. Each lad lost no time during the rounds and attacked and countered in tradesman like manner. It was really surprising that they kept up the Pace As they did for the whole four rounds. There was not a Dull moment in any of them and the spectators give vent to their feelings in no Uncertain manner. Darcy gained the decision but Only by a Small mar Erin of Points which he built up in the first two rounds. The first prelim was also very Brood. Frank Leslie 7.10 engaged Bill Knowles 8.0 Over four two minutes. Leslie knew just a Little bit More about the game that Knowles. Both lads were game and mixed it freely. Leslie showed to greater advantage in his attack but when on the defence the other lad had the honors. The decision in Leslie s favor was Well received. In the third prelim. Bob Leslie. 0.0, a brother of Frank Leslie had a Brush up with George Church 9.3, Over the same distance As the other two prelims. Leslie hopped straight in and made the Pace fast using both hands Well in getting the poin s. Church although not As fast on his feet As Leslie held his own and put More sting into his blows which eased Leslie up a Little. After that the pair were fairly even in what they gave and took and or. Constantine who refereed the three preliminaries gave the popular decision of a draw. 34 a grotest., new Adelaide stylish suit s from 8 to 10 guineas All work under personal supervision Jack Meyer. Ristuccia is the meteor of australian pug Dom. Not so Long ago he won the australian featherweight championship at the first time of asking when he Defeated Ern Baxter. At the broken Hill quadrangle last saturday Veteran Harry Stone got the verdict from Eddie Butcher on a foul in the 11th round. The bout was for the welterweight championship of the Western District of . Wales won a week previously by Stone. It was generally thought that hop Harry s tenure of this Remote championship would be of Only a week s duration for Butcher was looked upon As a sure Winner Over Stone who figuratively must be qualifying for the old age pension. However in the 11th Butcher put in one Lowd Jvn and was disqualified. The referee s decision did not meet with the unqualified approval of the audience. Casey stops Rice in first round. Patrons of the Sydney stadium on saturday night last did not get much of a spin for their Money when the queenslander Harry Casey who the previous saturday night beat fighting Harry Young to a standstill knocked out Ernie Rice in the first round. Judging by the manner in i which Casey dealt with Young it was not surprising that he handed a . Quick and Lively to Rice who although a recent arrival from the old Dart has up to now proved a soil snap for local lads. When Joe Wallis declared Rice the loser just As the Bell rang at the end of the first round the crowd yelled because it thought the referee had made a mistake. Itice had been heavily punished and just on the end of the round he was sent to the boards. Shortly afterwards the Bell rang. Rice was still on his Back in the Ioor and the referee declared Casey the Winner. The crowd thought Rice should have been allowed to be carried to his Corner because the Bell had ended the round and they contended that the referee had Only called nine. Whether or not the referee had actually called out did not matter As Casey had his Man w r Ell beaten. Some ring siders however declared that the referee had reached out As the Bell rang. The match was put on in place of the Uren Collins middleweight Battle postponed on account of Collins injuring his hand. A Cool drink guaranteed.
