the name that has been given to the attempt of the cuckoos to make the democrats believe that Mr Cleveland doesnt wish to be again nominated for President but merely to have the honor of declih ing the nomination after it hasbeen tendered by tho democratic national convention Inasmuch as tho demo cratic administration and Congress buncoed the voters of the would belonly a caso of poetic justice for Mr Cleveland and the cuckoos to bunco the democratic party If the democratic convention falls into the trap set forit and nominates Mr Cleve land with the expectationthathewill decline it will be the most disappoint ed body ever seen and it is just as tain as any future event can be that if nominated Mr Cleveland will accept In view of tihc generally recognized fact that the democratic nomination will next year be a very empty honor it is difficult to understand the efforts that Mr Cleveland and his cuckoos are making to get it These efforts can only be accounted for by the inordinate egotism of Mr Cleveland which causes him to believe improbable as it ap peals to everybody else that he coufd be elected again It has been known for quite a while iu administrationcircles that failing to get the nomination himself Mr Cleveland desires to throw the entire administration inflnence to Secretary Carlisle It has now leaked outthat there is a revolt against this pro gramme froni an unexpected direction Mr Clevelands man JDaa Lamont heads therevolt Dan is grateful to Mr Cleveland for the political favors he has received from him and although he doesnt like the idea of a third term for anybody he is willing to help Mr C try to get another nomination byt he owes nothing to Secretary Carlisle add he declines to have his allegiance transferred tohim when Mr C sees that he has no show There iaanother man who has done financially lor Dan Lamont what Mr Cleveland has done politicall for him That man is exSec retary Whitney and Dan proposes to show his gratitude by making Mr Whitney his second choice instead of Secretary Carlisle Mr Cleveland has only one objection to Whitney but that is a serious one He is the only man in either of his cabinets that he failed to completely dominate Theforce of example is one of the strongest knownto man Mr Cleve lands use of a government light house tender for his hunting and fishing trips was thenatural forerunner of ry Carlisles intendeduse of a goveru house tender to make a tour of the Great Lakes Not only will the Seoretarjand carried o Ibis junksfat but 1 BOO and hia wife will go alongvfnd wasnt to Yf oot the billsat yroqhj be quite cestly JM twtff Carlisle Jamilies willing to qupfe Public office is a pub lic trust at you in the face of the pri vate snap the members of the present administration have made of it Nothing more galling to the Cleve land democrats has occurred for a Jong time than Senator Gormans new cinch on the control of the Maryland demo cratic organization and the astute Gor man rubbed It in ou them by having his convention endorse the able and patriotic administration of President Cleveland and the tariff law that Pres ident Cleveland refuses to sign Mr Gormans resolution declared the tar iff to be tho best we have had for thirty five years which isnt strange when it is remembered that Mr Gorman was onevof the principal authors of the Sen ate tariff bill which took the place of the Wilson bill andbecame a law with out the Presidents signature Gorman may not capture the democratic Presi dential nomination next year for him self but it is notunlikely that the man who does must first dicker with him and he will be more exacting than he was when ho allowed Mr Cleveland to be nominated iu 92 Fear may do for the sugar what right and justice would not db Finding that Comptroller Bowler was determined regardless of the argu ments which willibe presented to him nextweek to refuse payment of the money appropriated by Congress for sugar bounties on the ground that the original sugar bounty law was uncon stitutional the Louisiana Congressional delegation put a new phase on the mat ter by informing members of the cabi net that tho withholding of this money will certainly put Louisiaua permanent ly in the republican column Word has been sent to Mr Cleveland and Bowlers orders may bo changed before his decision is made OUT TIP THE CORN This year Iowa formers have an abun dance of everything Providence seems to bo giving us a double deal to atone for our losses last year While Iowa will have tho largest corn oats and po tato crop in her history and a fair crop of hay and other grains other states have not boon nearly so well treated Ohio Indiana Illinois and a number of other good states are very short on hay and have less than an average corn crop The drouth last year taught tho Iowa farmer a lesson Ho for years he had been wasting his corn fod der considering it of little value Our experimental stations had for a long time advocated the cutting up of the corn and the caring for the fodder as serting that as a nutritive food it was equal to hay The farmer was slow to take up with the new theory With an abundance of grass each year he was reluctant to try it But last year Iowa was caught with her full quota of stock and a shortage of all crops The de spised fodder was all there was left for it got the chance for the first time of proving to the masses what a blessing is corn stalk blade ear nud all Cattle that were only expected to survive the winter came out sleek and faton it and ihus was proven all that the experimental statioas had cialmed of it This year there is nearly twice the amount of fodder per acre than Ihcre 5vas last year Let the Iowa farmer cut every stalk of it andcarafully save and feed it to his stook He will thus get an equivalent of from seven to ten dol lars per acre from r what he heretofore realized scarcely nothing The grain thus saved can be sold at a good price to those who must have it It is Iowas year Lets get every dollar out of our crops that is possible A friend has handed us the following regarding the cutting of fodder Mr Samuel Allerton of Illinois who if not the most successful farmer in S is one of the largest and most successful raising each year be tween 10000 and 15000 acres of corn upon his land has bought this year 25 corn binders He has volunteered to say that this corn machine he consid ers adds 810 per acre to every acre he possesses because it enables him to save his fodder at the proper rime and he has never been able to doit hiring men to qut itup He state that he can no longer afford to raise hay because he can get more nutriment more valuable feed off an acre of corn fodder than be can out of the best acre of timothy hay he can has the corn for noth ing He says that from actual exper ience and testa he will challenge any farmer to take a good fat animal out of the pasture in the fall and prevent him from losing weight through the winter months stuffing him with all the tim othy orbther hay he can get him to eat while oh the other baud he can take the same animal and with good corn fodder cut at the tiglit time and put 100 Ibs gain on the animal during the fintaaaonths Mr Allerton is one of the largest cattle feeders and shippers intheJTJ S and knows whereof lie speaks1 CBKSTOJT HISTOBIOAL TALK Judge Towner Delivers a Polished and Very Interesting
