Merit some the regulation issued by the us environmental Protection Agency requires All communities with Central water supplies containing natural fluoride in excess of twice the optimal amount to adjust the fluoride Content of their the ultimate goal is that no Central water Supply shall contain More than twice the optimal amount of fluoride for caries the optimal amount ranges from to parts fluoride to a million parts even though it does reduce the caries none of us really advocate drinking water that contains excessive fluoride to the Point of possibly causing mottled on the other is it fair to require the approximately affected communities to de fluoridated when no technical advice or operational funds have been made available to them requiring this action must be seen ases specially questionable to those residents who have lived in these communities for Many years with no ill effects from their drinking while it is recognized that the Epa does endorse fluoridation of Community water supplies and that the new regulation does not require a City to discontinue the edict has caused enough professional concern that the Ada through its president has stated that the association would prefer that regulations be issued requiring the adjustment of All Community water supplies to the optimal in other if adjustment downward in fluoride Content is then adjustment upward to attain effective fluoridation should also be one of the dental professions greatest concerns about the new de fluoridation ruling should be its possible misuse by who might or even that the us environmental Protection Agency is opposed to having fluoride in Community water that would not be so lets be sure that we All understand the real intent and the working elements of the regulation
