SUNDAY 10c Hazel to Hit North Carolina Hear Daniel Shivers Leads Group HATTERAS. N. C., Oct. 14 Hurricane Hazel, gaining speed and expected to move still faster, aimed its death-dealing fury at the North Carolina coast tonight. The season’s most vicious tropical storm, with winds of l^miles an hour and moving north-northwest at 25 to 30 m.p.h., was expected to strike land near Wilmington, N. C., about 5 a.m. The Miami Weather Bureau warned that winds would increase along the coast north of the storm throughout the night. The Weather Bureau said Hazel was centered about 275 miles ea.st of Daytona Beach, Fla., and about 350 miles southeast of Wilmington at 8 p m. A Navy reconnaissance plane planned to keep tabs on the hurricane by radar throughout the night. North Carolina coastal dwellers worked fcveri.shly to prepare for the savage storm which caused uncounted death and destruction as It lumbered through the Caribbean Khips «I Hea Similar precautions were taken at Norfolk. Coastal areas even farther north were urged to remain on the alert for “possible extension of warnings farther northward later today.” The big storm already has attained a forward speed rare in scope. Areas not in its immediate path were to feel the effects of its passage late today and tonight. Then, at 4 o’clock Friday afternoon another group will gather for rites in the Cameron cemetery when he is to be buried beside the grave of his only daughter, Gloria. Sen. Sadler, whom thousands looked on as a personal friend, died at 6:20 a.m. Thursday in the hospital at Stamford. town where he spent much of his boyhood. He was 62. He was stricken with a heart attack Tuesday evening while engaged in one of his favorite activities, emceeing a benefit show.
