that overturned during a Southern SF train derailment delayed clean-up work for several hours Tho derailment at the Dome siding approximately 20 miles of Yuma heavily damaged the tracks and shut down traffic from Phoenix to Los Work crews were clearing and repairing the tracks this morning Al SP public relations man said the track would be open by noon today At noon SP officials said work was just about The derailment of the car westbound train occurred at about day Apparently the derailment started in the mid- dle of the train causing the tracks to buckle and cars to slack up Sixteen cars were off the track at the Dome siding Four others off approximately -a the track apparently stayed on the track Nobody was in- jured Three of the cars that derailed at Dome siding were tankers one containing and the other two containing chemicals used in making plastics Rural Metro District Chief James Stenger said the leum car wasn't leaking ever -one of the chemical tankers had a leaky gasket around a filling port other tanker had a leaky valve We were called because protective clothing and air packs were needed to fix the Stenger said He said the fumes emitted from the chemicals were toxic and pre- sented a high health hazard The leaky valve was no problem All we had to do was turn Stenger said But we had to take heavy wrenches and tighten bolts on the port to stop that leak
