were ported as stolen from the Torrance lodging house at the corner of Main and First streets this morning Mrs Esther Torrance proprietor notified the police who are searching for a stranger who gave his name as Charles Allen and who occupied the room Sunday and Monday nights Allen is believed to be a laborer and is apparently about 35 years of age He Sunday and paid for Ms room in advance Yesterday afternoon Mrs Torrance gave him several odd jobs such as carrying in wood and straightening up the back yard and the stranger ed very appreciative This morning when the maid went to clean up his room she found the bed had been made up A closer investigation disclosed that there was nothing on the bed except the pillows sheets and a spread Mrs Torrance could not state this afternoon how much more may have been taken by the thief whom the officers believe to be the man who gave the name Allen She notified the police of the theft as soon as she discovered the loss of the bedding and will probably have to take an tory before she will be able to mine just how much has been stolen The authorities believe that the man who is missing has gone either to Sacramento or the Sutter Basin sheriff's office will search for Planning Com sion For Davis An ordinance was adopted at the joint meeting of the Davis Business Men's Association and the town trustees of Davis last night viding for the creation of a city By law this commission consists of five bers appointed by the mayor and with the consent of the board one of which must be a member of the board The city engineer the city attorney and the mayor are all ex- officio members The members of the commission will be announced at the next meeting SHARPNACK ATTACKERS WOODARD IS STRICKEN BY PNEUMONIA The him in this county and the Sacramento officers have been requested to be on the lookout for him in the capital A change for the worse occurred last night in the condition of George Burdette Woodard the young man who claims to have attempted to end his life by shooting himself with a revolver last week Reports from the Woodland this afternoon state that monia has developed in the right lung While there is still a chance for his recovery the physicians are not at all optimistic It was the pneumonia attack which was most dreaded after the danger from internal hemorrhages had been eliminated Pneumonia is a frequent released on bail late yesterday Their bail ever was fixed at a figure far above that usually imposed in the case of ordinary accidents or even of ing an officer It was placed at 000 according to the report received here today Sharpnack has filed a charge of driving Awhile intoxicated against the two men This is a under the penal code of California and is by a sentence of two years imprisonment according to local legal authorities Another Charge Nor is it likely that Sharpnack will stop with this charge alone He has indicated that he will probably also file a charge of resisting and ing an officer in the legal ance of his duty in consequence of events which he reports took place at the time he placed the two men under arrest This charge is also said to be a as applied to the attack officers have been victimized during the past two by thieves and alleged drunks while a third county cer just missed being a victim through good fortune plus unusual care One of the two officers Captain George Sharpnack has a badly smashed machine and is fortunate that he is not confined to a hospital with a long period of bodily mending facing him as the result of an encounter with two men alleged to have been driving while intoxicated The other Tony Marty is minus many parts and accessories for his automobile and is fortunate that he has the machine Marty who is a deputy sheriff and resides at Riverbank was victimized by thieves in Sacramento Saturday night less than 24 hours before Sharpnack met with the dent which smashed his machine Marty Captain Sharpnack and Officer Henry Jacobs had driven to Sacramento Saturday night Marty drove his own car while Sharpnack who is chief of the Yolo county traffic ANTHRAX THREATENING BOARD WANTS MORE TIME TO APPOINT LIVESTOCK INSPECTOR THREE NAMED FOR POSITION There arc a few cases of anthrax i n Yolo county that require the diate services of a livestock expert the Yolo county supervisors were told late yesterday but the matter of
