an Illness of about three weeks He was buried on the following Tuesday in tho Odd Fellows cemetery Deceased was a native of vania and if he had lived until the ISth of next December he would have Alge returned to Chico Sun evening Schurley left Sunday even ing for Sisson Schuyler Walton hits returned Fresno to N been 90 years of age Over half a century ago he came to California locating in Northern Yolo near Blacks Fov 20 years he was in part with E Q in tural on the farm now own ed by Mr Crites After they dissolved partnership Mr Hoffman moved to the vicinity ot where he resided for many years His next re moval was to Red Bluff where he lived until two years ago when he retired and moved to Santa Cruz to juss the remainder of his days About 30 years ago he was married to Mrs Martha Myers who survives him To them there was born one child a daughter She is married and resides near Chico but we have been unable to learn her name He leaves three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews A brother Ja cob Hoffman died in Knights Land ing several years ago and another M L Way horseman returned to Fresno Sunday J Twohy horseman returned to Warm Springs Sunday Adam McBride of Sacramento was mo brother Dan died in His sister Mrs S A Black of this city is now the only survivor of a family of eleven children She was youngest member of the family During Mi Hoffmans long residence n this county he made a host o many of whom survive bin and who will learn of bis death witl sincere sorrow He bore nn enviable reputation as a a loyal friend and a devoted husban and father to a close Saturday evening was an unqualified success On behalf of the board of directors I take this opportunity of expressing my thanks to the many individuals and organizations who gavo us j grand support which undoubtedly made the fair the best little fair given in California this year Tho receipts were away above ex and we will pay our bills dollar for dollar Considering that this was our first attempt at managing such a big en 1 believe that I am speaking the minds of every booster in Yolo county in slating that the Yoly county fair o 1913 all that could be ex John W owner of the Woodland Stock Farm who so gener donated towards the project has told me that he is perfectly satisfied with the manner in which the people responded to hla generous efforts in our behalf He has stated to me that J C Owen a Stranger Must Answer to Charge of At tempt to Murder J C Owen will stand trial for an at tempt to murder George Elston who for years has been the bridge at Knights Landing In a on the Sutler side of Hit bridge Saturday afternoon the strang er drew a knife on Elston and out ft severe gash In his forehead and a deep wound In his back Elston Is an elderly man but his condition Is Im proved today and It is believed he wil recover The Unite Is in Sutler county jail The altercation followed an of the bridge tender to prevent tin stranger from entering a tent be
