Power Companies V Yolo People Heard in Lake Case AN INDIVIDUAL COMES IN SHORT MENTION LENGTHS In This Space is Related Live News of Woodland The Stale Conservation Commission began Friday the hearing of a con troversy involving two gigantic power and irrigation projects in Lake and Yolo counties the conversion of Clear Lake into a great storage reservoir and the carrying of water to more than 100000 acres of land The Yolo Water and Power Company is contesting before the commission the right of the Power and Irrigation Company of Clear Lake to carry out certain power and irrigation projects as defined in latter ap plication to the commission The hearing continued through af and evening sessions and each side summoned a half dozen witnesses from Yolo and Lake counties to tes tily regarding the standing of the two concerns Testimony was given before Commissioners S C and Har old T Power Attorney H T Jones represented the commission A C Hus ton of Woodland the complaining cor and Charles S Wheeler the corporation Roy M Pike president of the Yolo Water and Pow er Company was in Attendance iu be half of his corporation As brought out by the settlements of tlie attorneys before the commission the protesting attorney makes the con tention that before the defendant and water development cern had applied for permission to dam In response to Hustons questions Clear Lake and raise the level ten feet Wheeler gave an exhaustive summary for power purposes the Yolo Water of his holdings on the mar and Company had begun gin of Clear Lake Huston in asking same project by the filing of condemi or the information sought to prove nation suits to more than half the laud to the commission that the on the margin of the lake The latter company owned no land absolutely the Yoo Water and Power Com pany Inul fulfilled all its promises and that the admission of a new company seriously would endanger agricultural development in the county Attorney Houston in outlining his case at the afternoon session charged that tin defendant company was or for no other purpose tlian to plunder the Yolo Water and Power Company He contended that the lat ter company was the only
