living in Lake county since they left Woodland huve returned to Wood land and will probably become perma nent residents of this city again Stephens left for San Francisco this morning Later he will be joined by R H Beamer and 9 M Griggs and they will be members of the party that will leave for Panama on Thursday Mra Marie Miller and daughter Miss Clare who have been spending several with Mr and MrR F V Sten ing left for their home in Chicago Monday afternoon They were accom as far as Sacramento by Mr and Mrs Stoning Both Mrs Miller and her daughter say they had a de lightful visit and are carrying with them on the return trip many pleasant memories of the atato and especially of Woodland They will be kindly re membered by those who were fortu nate to meet them during their stay In this city George A charged with contributing to the dependence of a minor child will have to stand trial n the superior court of this county was arrested ou January 13th and ils preliminary examination was held Justice Strong on January He was held to answer before the su court After some delay he was arraigned n the superior court and entered a plea ot not guilty His trial was set for April Before that date Ills attorney R Clark tiled with the ap court a petition for a writ of prohibition restraining the superior court from proceeding with the trial This petition was argued and submit ted about leu days ago The principal argument was made against the t writ by District Attorney Bailey J Charles Jones deputy also made a brief argument The appellate court rendered a decision today deny ing the Immense al interests of the state to his personal jealousies and selfish purposes The encouragement of aspiring students is all right but they should hot be ap pointed to such responsible positions Company F was asked Tuesday afternoon If he had re any orders from eral Forbes in relation to recruiting the company to the full complement of 70 men He replied that he knew nothing about It except what he had read in the papers Captain Nichols is of the opinion that if such an order has been issued that it has no special significance and Is not to be accepted as an indication that the National Guard Is likely to be ordered to the Mexican frontier The company al ready has a membership of 63 and there will be no difficulty In obtain ing the full complement especially if It should become mation that his grandson Norman Thompson died in Portland Monday evening April at 6 oclock He was the son of B R Thompson and wife The latter was Helen Rahm before marriage Master Nor nan visited in this city from last Sep tember to March of this year He was a bright and promising lad and the news of his premature death will be heard by the Woodland friends of the family with sincere regret
