ESTABLISHED 1877 AUTO TURNS A SOMERSAULT AWARDS FOR Willows Men in Bad Accident Near Woodland State Fair Prizes for Shorthorns Nearly All Captured Two Tires Burst 0 Knocked at Sanitarium J Mrs J H Glides Exhibit Hanks Jirst T B Second The Awards The climax to a series ot automobile accidents which have occurred iii the last few days came Monday night when a car turned completely over injuring the driver George Ruport and the only passenger A H Culver both of Wil lows The accident occurred at the end of the College street road and was due to the blowing out of the two tires oil the right side of the car Both occupants of the car had a miraculous escape from instantaneous death Mr Culver escaped with sever al bad bruises about the hips and will probably be lame for several days Mr injuries were more seri though it cannot be stated at present just how badly he is injured He is suffering considerable paio about the chest and and it was found to send him to a sanitarium The physicians state that ho Is internally injured The machine is owned by the Sacra Valley Irrigation Company by whom Mr Ruport is employed Mr Ruport arrived with the machine in Woodland Monday afternoon bringing with him Mr and Mrs Frank Free man and Mr Culver all of Willows Mr Freeman had business in this city Monday afternoon and departed for San Francisco on the local train this morning His wife came as far a Woodland just for the ride and return ed to Willows in the evening on the motor Mr Ruport and Mr Culver started with the machine on the return trij to Willows about oclock They went out the College street road auc just as they were about to make the turn into the racetrack road west one of the rear tires blew out causing the car to swerve out of position Mr Rn port attempted to bring the car around and would probably have succeeded without any accident If just at tha instant the front tire on the same side of the car had not blown out This caused the machine to turn a complet somersault Mr Culver was about twenty feet and into the field on the north side of the racetrack road He recovered his senses quickly and came the raod where he found Mr Ruport in a dazed condition and trying to recover hid breath The latter was unconscious Mr Culver packed him into the resi dence of Mrs Louise Calder near by and both remained there for the night A physician was summoned and Mr Ruport was ordered to be removed to thc sanitarium this morning where he is resting as comfortably as possible under the circumstances The car was damaged to the extent of several hundred dollars It wa hauled to the Main street garage where it will be temporarily repaired and then shipped to San Francisco The glass front was totally demolished the panel on the left front seat smash YOLO CATTLE On fourth AN OFFICIAL DEAD H 6 Succumbed Monday Evening He Lay Unconscious for Nearly Two Lived Hero Fifty six Years 50 AND H B or Bruce as all Yolo county affectionately knew him passed away Monday evening at oclock in Miss sanitarium where he had been after a fall that he sustained Thursday Aug ust On lie date he was overcome hy dizziness the cul of a long period of physical weakness due to kidney troubla IIe was removed to his apartments hi the Byrns hotel and the next morning was taken to the sanitarium He did not lose consciousness immediately after ho fell Init he never rallied for a mo ment from the that soon fol lowed His condition however was not deemed hopeless until last Sunday night when a sudden change for tjio worse Monday morning the physicians marie Known the dissolution and in the evening the hush of eternity enwrapped the well loved brother friend and teacher H B was the son of the late Rev and Mrs J N two of the most honored best known and most useful of Yoio county citizens A of their lives would be a history of early Yolo The pioneer minister and his wife came across the plains to this locality in 1854 their son Bruce who was born in Kentucky August 5 1849 was with them The son who has just died pass ed therefore practically his whole life in this vicinity Here he received his education in public schools and Hes perian college here he taught and wa selected to be the head of schools Over thirty years ago he was elected superintendent of the Yolo county Cows three years old or schools He gave an excellent admin isippi Rose Mrs J H Glide and was elected for a second to Hrst Beauty H the Third T B j term during which he maintained the Gibson Woodland second Greenwood i good record of his first In 1897 ho Lady J H Glide Sacramento j was chosen by the hoard of third Lancaster Bride Mis J H ors to fill the vacancy in the Glide Sacramento fourth office caused hy the death of Cows 2 years old and under I i Mn Clara He Githa the Mrs J H served the remainder of the term and Glide Sacramento first Golden Rose then resumed teaching About six the Third Mrs J H Glide years ago he was called to Maine to second Maid T B i Prairie school in which he did not relax thc hold he had on friendships acquired in his earliest j school days He never married but the interest he took in and the love he had for his nieces and nephews ami the welcome that ever awaited him In the homes of his brothers and sister compensated him for having no hearth stone of his own His father died over thirty years ago but his mother preceded li death only a few months since One sister and four brothers survive Mrs Gertrude Simpson ot Woodland Sam T of Los Angeles R W of Spokane Washington Charles M of Los Angeles and Frank of Val lejo The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10 oclock from the resi dence of Mrs Gertrude Simpson on south College street Rev W E Bob bitt will officiate All friends are In Asa Morris Sons who probably have the finest herd
