illness took such a serious turn that be was compelled to take to his bed from which he was destined never again to rise It is a comfort to his family and friends to know that he was prepared to die ami received the last with tbe assurance of a man well grounded in the faith and confident of the future hat lies beyond His last words of consciousness were such H oC comfort and love as only come om the heart of a man conscious having lived an exemplary and useful lite He died as he had lived with out reproach and therefore without fear When a man has lived out his days and years among the people whose confidence and respect he holds and in the bosom of a family who merited ill the affection he could bestow upon them and who loved him tenderly In return there is usually nothing more beautiful in his life than its close Judge Fisher was born on the ot March 1827 in what was at that time Cooper county Missouri In those days Cooper county extended from the Missouri river to the Osage river As the population increased there were more subdivisions and Mor gan and counties were formed from territory originally a part of Cooper county Judge Fishers birthplace is now a part of Morgan county His father was a farmer and young Fisher was trained to that pation The Fisher family was noted for the longevity of Its members and the subject of this sketch Inherited a robust constitution which he fortified by correct habits and tbe moderate and temperate manner tn which he lived He also inherited sterling traits of character which In after years were so distinctly recognizable tn the pecu liar affairs He was a close personal friend and ardent follower ot Colonel Denton They riot only enjoyed a close intimacy but were in frequent consultation Many of these confidential talks were overheard by young Fisher and they made an im pression upon him that lasted through life Judge Fisher often recalled a conversation in which Colonel Benton foretold the construction of railways which would be the connecting links of commerce between tbe two great seaboards of the United States Such a prediction seemed like a Utopian dream at the time but ft was who knew no party lines loyalty to him He evinced his ap preciation In many ways and often the thoughts m his heart would surge to his lips and nnd expression tn words of gratitude were born to Mr and Mrs Fisher but only four survive They are Mrs H B Walters who re sides in Mrs BM Miller and Miss Mattie Fisher of Woodland and William H Fisher of San Fran cisco who Is of the Bulletin An only sister of the deceased Mrs D K Steele lives in Clarksburg Missouri Judge Fisher was a consistent mem ber of the Baptist church He made a profession of Christianity early In life He lived and practiced the religion of charity to and love for his fellowman His faith was pure simple a faith that has blossomed into ty Christian purity was the basic principle of his public and private life aud it was the rock upon which he founded his hope or a life hereafter Every day Is a good day with a man who so lives out notwithstanding this prophecy of a better day for him In the hereafter his death leaves with Ms friends a keen sense ot bereavement
