the Board of Report DEPOT CHANGES The Bar and loach Counter at Sacra mento Will Go Oat Creek Pupil and Horth Grafton School Take Honon in the Tbo county board of education baa completed the grading of the papers of the ninth grade pupils and the review of the promotion papers of the classes in all districts The following extracts form the summary of the yeara work prepared by the board will probably interest Inhere Were 96 pupils who took the examination this year 5 more than last year The Individual place of honor in the county belongs to Miss Hazel Robinson of Oat Creek district who obtained 9408 per cent Next in order comes Miss Ruby Saterlee of North Gratton 938 Third from the same school Miss Lena O 933 Fourth Lester H Hawk Cache Creek district 926 Fifth Edith Davisville 918 Sixth Alamie North Grafton 915 Seventh Alleene Laugenour Eureka 905 Eighth Mabel Cutler Oat Creek 904 Ninth Maud E Hampton Dav 902 Tenth Frank Wildwood 9005 The class that averaged the highest inthe examination as a whole is that of North Grafton 858 Highest class average In the subject of grammar 90 per cent Highest class average in the subject of bookkeeping Oat Creek 94 per cent Highest average In arithmetic made by Wood land Prairie district 91 per cent Highest averages in spelling were made by Emma of Lisbon dls Homer Fletcher of Cache Creek and Clara of North Grafton On the slight changes have been made in the course of study These changes will be forwarded to teachers beginning of the fall B U who for many years has conducted the saloon and lunch counter at the depot Is making prep to vacate and Is having his personal belongings removed as fast as possible The saloon will be closed up altogether by order of General Man ager Kruttschnitt of the Southern Pa The present lunch counter will also be given up and the space It now pies will be taken up by a general ticket office Instead of the lunch counter a In the rear of the will be placed In operation under the ticket was issued entitling the holder to refreshments consisting of either coffee and cake or icecream and cake Quite a neat little sum was realized for the benefit of the social fund Mr and Mrs garden In the rear o their pretty little residence on First street is an Ideal spot for such an affair It contains numerous beds of choicest flowers ferns foliage etc arranged In a most artistic manner The garden with its myriads of lights never looked more beautiful than on Friday evening Suspended from wires overhead were numerous Chinese lanterns of pretty designs A novel feature was the lanterns made out of strawberry baskets The national col ors were used to good advantage Here and there was the American flag and along the fences and the arbor bunt Ing was the principal feature of the decorations Card tables and chairs were placed In the center of the in the space usually occupied as a croquet ground Here the crowd wailed away the time playing cards and doing as they pleased listening to the excellent numbers of a brief musical program The first number was a vocal quar tette by Messrs Cummins Rhodes Griffin and Rogers They responded to several encores Miss Leta Rogers gave a beautiful vocal solo in good voice She was ac on the piano by Miss Edith Johnson accompanied by Miss Annie Richie rendered several ful cornet solos Refreshments were then served dnr Ing which many excellent selections were rendered by Bert phonograph Icecream and cake were served teteatete on the tables In the center while coffee and cake were from two large tables in the ar bor The arbor Is a delightful little recess at the northwest end of the gar den entirely hidden from view by a luxuriant growth of Ivy The affair was a great success and tha ladles received many compliments for their work The Democratic county cen tral committee met la the city hall at 2 oclock this afternoon Chairman A C called the meeting to order and Sec T G Hughes called the roll Those present were F disposed of August 12th wasset for hold ing primaries for choosing dele gates to a county convention to be held August for tho purpose of electing delegates to the state convention which con venes on September 1st The matter of the nomination of a county ticket by the Craw ford plan or a convention was next in order and D P and C W Thomas addressed the committee In advocacy of the Crawford plan Byron Ball and J G Lee spoke In favor of a convention C A Newton of Washington Yolo and Geo of Winters Ben Borach of Madison and E 1 R Snavely of Woodland all favored the Crawford plan J C Fugitt of Winters fav ored the Crawford plan A ballot was which resulted In favor of the Crawford plan by a vote of 16 to 12 The selection of a date for holding the Crawford primary was left to the committee which meet again later on at the call of the chairman The meeting then adjourned Woodlands fair and race meeting will be one of the big events of the Cal this year and horsemen must remember that entries to the harness events will close Tuesday next July let For many years Wood land has had the giving the best race meeting of any of the dis fairs owing to the fact that It oc curs on the week Immediately ing the state fair and It seems that all the horsemen want to start there If possible Its track Is always fast and made at Woodland do not as records made at Woodland do not bar the horses making them from any races in Sacramento there Is always a great scramble for first money In the events over the Yolo county track On Tuesday next ten classes five of which are for trotters and five for pac ers will close with Secretary C F Thomas at Woodland and every event should nil The purses are most lib eral ranging from to for the aged classes Owners are requested to enter their horses in two classes as the program will be so arranged that they can start In both events by plac ing the races in which they are enter ed far enough apart to admit of it In all these purses horses arc to be
