Shannon left this morn ing for San Jose to attend the state GASHED BY A HARROW A Young Laborer Badly Hurt on the Laugenour Farm normal school Hart and Supervisor Burns were arrivals from Sutter county Mon day afternoon T R Lowe anil wife and Mrs W W day Brownell returned from San Francisco this morning Mr and Sirs J R Poster and Herbert Sultana a recent arrival from Kentucky and about 17 years old Is In the county hospital as a result of painful Injuries Inflicted upon by the iron of a big harrow The young man was in the employ of Charles Laugenour Monday after noon he was driving a big team hitched to a harrow and riding the near wheel horse Tired of sitting astride he threw hie left leg to the near side and was riding sideways The leader suddenly shied and the young man fell to Uie ground Before he could recover the harrow was upon him His clothes were rent into tat ters and his body and limbs were bad ly mutilated by the harrow teeth There was scarcely a square inch that escaped injury A scalp wound In the shape of a horseshoe is perhaps the most serious one While the muti lations were numerous and painful fortunately none of the harrow teeth reached a vital spot His body was dragged some distance before it was freed from the harrow Mr our who witnessed the accident from a distance hurried to the young mana assistance Ho was first taken to Mr home and afterwards to the county hospital where he submit ted to dressing and sew ing up of his many wounds without manifesting any pain Considering the character and num ber of his Injuries Jie passed a com night and Be Running in the Ditch The high water last December wash ed away a portion of the gravel top of the that diverts the water from ache Creek Into the Moore ditch It also undermined the bulkhead In order to prevent the ditch from filling up with sediment during the flood sea son a dam was constructed In the flitch a short distance below tbe head As a result there has since been still water In so
