reported to be quite 111 W D returned to Tuesday Miss R Dreyfus Is at home from SELECTING AK EXPERT By Grand Jury Is Difficult Under a Recent Law The grand jury may encounter seri difficulties In securing the ser vices of an expert Indeed the law is strictly followed it will be ble to an expert in the county or matter in the state who can meet all the requirements The last legislature enacted a law creating a board of public accountants John Hoesch assistant secretary state is tho chairman All grand jury experts must pass an examination by this board and it is a misdemeanor for them to act without having first obtained a certificate The board has issued a list of ques tions that must be satisfactorily an swered in obtain a certificate The first requirement is that tho appli cant must bo a public accountant There is no such position as a pub lic accountant in the state A pri vate accountant docs not seem to be eligible The applicant must also be able to a certificate from three men forth that said appli cant work for them in his capacity as a public accountant within the last three years Courthouse officials who have exam ined these questions are of the ion that no man in Yolo county is eli gible for the position if the law is lit construed E T Lampion who has been desig by the grand Jurors as the man Whom they would like to employ after reading the questions handed them to Secretary Bidwell with the remark that he does not care to pay a fee of upon such an uncertainty There is no doubt that Mr Lampion is well qualified to perform such duties as have heretofore been required of grand jury experts buthe does hot pretend to bo a public accountant and per formed accountant work for throe dif ferent years firms within the last three The grand jury met at I oclock probably timed his visit purposely so that he would be hero on the same day the grand Jury organized and have a talk with some of the members about the flagrant violation of the law In Washington by
