overdone that the news of its prosperity will attract so many people to the town that the natural trade of the place will not support the new shops and stores opened etc This cannot well be the case with Grand ids because there is not a vacant business house in the town nnd no newcomer can go into business here unless he first builds for himself a place in which he can ate Everybody in business here seems to be doing fairly well aud some are ing good money Every laboring man finds a job at good wages and business seems to be moving along in a most factory manner There will probably be more business houses built but they are not liable to be built faster than the de- mands on the trade of the city warrants Horse Talk Otto Kickbusch sold to J D Pierce of Milwaukee his line black mare den in the lilacs the giant oak which stood just within the front yard with its matted grass and flowers that silent and defiant old front door and the grass bordered pathway I used to tread so ly that led around the house to the back door Here was the back porch and the well with its curb and windlass Just tall enough to peer over tho edge how often have I stood and looked into the Little barefooted urchin in knee pants and blouse waist with straw hat in hand and flaxen curls hanging over my can see myself as I was down into the well I am aroused by the falling of raindrops and opening the back door I run into the kitchen A door ajar reveals my mother busy in an adjoining so avoiding this room I slip through unobserved into the hall Here is the broad stairway with its oak rails I begin at once to go up step by step thinking us I go In the sitting room below is a great fire place unused now Plow often have I looked up the chimney flue and dered where it went All at once I think of a door at the head of the stairs which once before I had dared to open to find I steps leading whither I knew not May the strongest Siberian plays of recen J be the steps and the wem years and the
