Point has just concluded the purchase of a tract of acres of land on Buena Vista marsh in the southern part of Portage county The land was bought by him from the Wisconsin Land and Improvement com- pany through H V Foster of that city This was the largest single purchase of land ever recorded in the register's office in Portage county The land was secured six years ago by the company from many individuals for the purpose of speculation It was proposed to drain the entire territory and transform it into farm lands by the digging of great es The marsh lies in Portage shara and Wood counties Lumber Company of Milwaukee During the past week the Wilbur Lumber Co of Milwaukee through the agency of F L Tibbets the purchasing member of the firm bought the entire season's cut of the Grand Rapids Lumber Co of this city It includes about feet of pine and at least feet of hemlock and will in all amount to between and This mill is one of the most valuable manufacturing plants to this city of any that we possess as it is running nearly all the time pays fairly good wages and gives employment to about 150 men They have a splendidly equipped mill near the Milwaukee depot on the west side where they both retail and wholesale lumber Their logs are shipped in by rail from various points in the northern part of the state and by purchases made during the past year they have a supply of timber on liand that will keep the mill busy for ten years to come Death of Mrs Odegard The death of Mrs Andrew Odegard occurred at her home on Tine street Friday afternoon March 7 at 3 o'clock She had been in poor health for the past fifteen years but was very sick for only two days before her death which was caused by dropsy The funeral took place at the Moravian church on the west side Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev Groenfeldt and was very largely attended by neighbors and friends of the family Mrs Odegard was bora in Norway June 30 1854 and came to this country with her parents in locating at Strongs Prairie in Adams county Her maiden name was Mattie Tolvstad She was married to Andrew Odegard April 20 and came to Grand Rapids to make her home where she has since lived She was the mother of four children two of whom Carl aged 17 and George aged 15 and her husband survive her An adopted daughter of whom she was very fond died five months ago Besides her own family three kindly assisted us during her last Illness and in the funeral services CARL AJTD David Fawcett On Friday last March 7 occurred the death or David Fawcett who for the past four years has conducted a cabinet maker's shop and furniture repairing establishment on the west side He was born in Canada at Heathcote in Ontario October and came to the United States in 1893 and to Wood county in 1897 He of 1902 Leads All In This Section as an Early Starter Not within the memory of the oldest inhabitant has the season shaken oil its winter mantle and donned the glad rags of spring at an early date For Kellogg in which a profusion of roses and choice flowers added their fragrance to the happiness of the family and the con- parties Miss Myrtle C Kellogg the youngest daughter and pride of the family was at high noon joined in withR W Grenfell of Chelsea a young man of many amiable and ex- qualities united with good ness ability and training Hev W Peterson of the Methodist church formed the marriage ceremony and Jos Humbird of a friend of the groom and Miss Jessie Parrott of Merrill a cousin of the bride served the couple as groomsman and bridesmaid After the ceremony the company sat down to a sumptuous wedding feast At the newly wedded couple took the Green Bay tain for Milwaukee and from there they will go to Madison to visit the groom's uncle ex-Mayor C Ei Wheelan of that city before returning to Grand Rapids They were the recipients of many useful and valuable gifts They will make their home for the present at Chelsea but may later go to Milwaukee to live Mr home was from the Toland's business college at Wausau last year She has many friends in the city who will join us in tions and good wishes for her and her husband's happiness Conductor Smith Hurt Charles Smith of Green Bay conductor on the Green Bay and Western formerly of this city had the misfortune to slip from the caboose at a station called Arnott eaat of Plover last week and one of the wheels of tbe car ran over his foot crushing it He was taken to Amherst and was amputated at the instep Mrs Smith was formerly Miss Nellie Herschleb of Grand Rapids and the young people have many friends here who
