affectionately dubbed by his wife of 38 Alberta was ac tually called to the ministry when he was about 29 years old knew before he did Alberta I didn't say anything She attempted to explain the phenomenon of being called to do the Lord's work It's the Lord's spirit within you It drives you Some people would call it your we don t because we don't feel our conscience can really be our guide without the Lord We were in the Assembly of God Church in Corn N Y when Chuck was called to preach but he ignored it Chuck said That was back in 1955 I began to study for the ministry as an evangelist I had a few meetings Then one I was driving by a restaurant and saw a sale sign on it I made a deal with the owner and I was in busi ness I set the call of God aside Chuck notes put the Bible down and began to make big money To make a long story short after 15 years I ended up with nothing Still God kept making me miserable I Knew I had to go out and preach the Gospel or else he said laughing During those 15 vears the couple literally weathered many storms two of the worst in Agnes in 1972 with water rising to a level of ten feet in their two restaurants and then just as they got back on their feet Eloise struck in 1975 We had only owned the Elmira N Y restau rant for 8 weeks when Agnes hit Alberta said Chuck interjected Alberta and I have gone through two major floods which set our restaurants back and then a half million dol lar fire The fire destroyed the 19 department Ole World Store Chuck had created in Lind ley N Y along Route 15 The Country Store was Chuck s dream Alberta said That fire she continued cost us everything we had We tried to come back from that but we couldn t Our insurance didn t begin to cover our loss and we had to declare bankruptcy The May 18 is Now Official Primary Election Date floods and fire put us under They lost their restaurants their home and possessions dur ing bankruptcy proceedings Chuck said Saturday The big gest part was disobedience to God because I was called to preach before I went into busi ness and I didn t Alberta said I don t now howl could have gotten through every thing that has happened to us without the Lord I feel I would have ended up in a mental tion Chuck continued I always came back with a boom after each of the disasters but I was the unhappy man in the world I just couldn t shake God s call off my heart I put my wife children and grandchildren through hell wife kept preaching to me You are going to be miserable and until you do what God called you to do I knew she was light but wouldn t give in I knew what it was like to havt money and be at the top in busi ness to have big homes Lincoln Continentals buying everything and anything but today I wouldn t trade my experience in the Sp rit Jesus and my call from God for the whole world the Cudas spend as much time as possible visiting area churches preaching arid singing We are available to attend turn to page 2i With the May 18 elec tions less than
