FORMER SUBMITS A RESOLUTION Says Election is Invalid Un s der Any Possible View of the Law Washington D C Jan figh to prevent Senator Lorimer of Illinois from retaining his seat in the United States senate opened today with a con test between Beveridge and Owen o Oklahoma both of whom contested fo r the right to fire the first gun in the same cause Beveridge by virtue of being a mem ber of the committee on privileges ana elections which investigated the charges of bribery against Lorimer gained a tactical victory by filing a minority report attacking the position of his colleagues on the committee who voted to expel the Illinois senator Owen however introduced a resolution to declare the election of Lorimer il legal and void but he was not permit ted to address the senate In its sup port The senate held that the resolu tion under the rules would have to go over until tomorrow Submits Resolution Beveridge then submitted his report the conclusion of which was that this election was invalid under any possible view of the law If the senate so con cludes it is our duty so to declare Therefore I submit tho following reso lution Resolved That William Lori mer was not duly legally
