the H OLD ENGINEER DIES H Bucklin Passed Away After Twelve Years Sickness Hollis H Bucklin of 228 Fowler street died yesterday afternoon about o'clock after a lingering illness of twelve or fifteen years However Mr Bucklin had not been seriously ill and the end came unexpectedly There is some question as to the exact ture of his ailment and a post mortem examination is being made to mine the cause of death Deceased was about 50 years of age and at one time was an engineer on the Illinois Central Some twelve years ago his health failed and he was obliged to give up railroading Since that time he has been doing roof contracting and similar work Mr Bucklin -had lived in Waterloo about twenty years and had raised a family of four children They are Tony a telegraph operator at Baxter Bert Keiffer who since February 7 has been taking United States sus on manufacturing states that since the beginning the work he has averaged nearly five manufacturing plants each day and up to this time has listed between 50 and 60 He con- siders that the work will require about another week and that number of manufacturing tries in the city will aggregate from 75 to 100 This does not mean that there are no more manufacturing industries than that in Waterloo but that there are only that number in the classes listed by the government officials and which are used in this census After completing the held the position for a number of years having succeeded F J Sessions six or seven years ago He has made many friends among the patrons of the school and should he decide to re- move from this he had weighed and measured samples of the water and then had reduced it to find the organisms Later he burned the substance to learn the extent of the volatile organisms He found that less than five per cent of the matter was consumed which showed the ab- sence of sewage contamination Explained the Chemist Rogers explained to a terie of newspaper men this morning each step necessary to obtain a ical analysis or make a bacteriological examination of water Dr Rogers ob- tains the for- his tests from a tap at the court house and then treats it by different chemicals until he can determine whether not there are injurious germs present The cal analysis is completed each day but a bacteriological test takes nearly a week The testing laboratory is on the second floor of the water station The Deep Well The deep well being drilled in the rear of the water station has now reached a depth of 605 feet The hard rock encountered during the last 100 feet is still in evidence and work is progressing slowly Waterloo people will be greatly in and pleased to learn that the board of directors of tie Waterloo Cedar Falls Gas and Electric company at their meeting voted to reduce the net rate per 1.000 cubic feet of gas from to to take effect from April 1st next This voluntary reduction is further evi dence of the disposition of the com- pany to give the people a square as well as the best possible vice at tie least cost possible all considered This reduction is also evidence that the members of the board have ence in the splendid future of loo and appreciate the cordial support DAUGHTER OF D H GEDDES A FORMER RESIDENT CALLED AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS DIED IN KNOXVILLE TENN End Came Early Sunday Morning Feb Held on day the 14th Miss Marian Geddes daughter of Mr and Mrs D H Geddes for years residents of Waterloo died at the family home in Knoxville Tenn Sunday morning Feb 12 The news was brought to friends of the family who received a copy of the Knoxville Journal and Tribune of Feb 13 in which the following notice Marian C Geddes aged thirty-six years daughter of Mr and Mrs D H Geddes of 225 Deader ick street died at o'clock Sunday morning after a lingering illness The deceased was a native of New York but had resided in Knoxville for the past fourteen years She was well known in the city and universally teemed The funeral will occur at o'clock Tuesday candidates who have been officially announced are John Rector and Frank Connor The case of the Waterloo Brewing Co vs Peter of Waverly has been settled by Mr paying the amount claimed in full This is one of the three or four cases recently mentioned by the Re- porter which have been started by the brewing company for the purpose of collecting from its members the assessment made to pay the cost of canvassing the vote of loo After the company had failed to secure the privilege of manufacturing liquor in the county they decided upon a dissolution of the company and that an assessment be made to pay the ex- pense already incurred A number failed to pay their portion and actions were accordingly commenced The case of Mr is the first in which a settlement has been made Case Continued The case
