Advertising In both publications furnished on application in Courier Block 136 Bridge Street Coming Our Way According to a dispatch from Wash ington to the Minneapolis Journal of the 18th the Republican leaders are already making up a slate for It begins to look as though the great west will stand some chance of being recognized next time and that Senator Allison of our own state is the man who will knock the persimmon The correspondent says The more the Republican consider the latest and greatest defeat of their party the more their views turn to the probable chances for success in That the leaders do not intend to give up the ship is evident from the fact that the national commit tee fs going to meet in January to be gin the organization for the campaign four years hence and to study the sit It is not necessary to point out the fact that the majority of the members of the national Republican committee are enthusiastic Blaine men and that further than this they were of the opinion in advance of the Minne apolis convention last June that he could win as their candidate and that General Harrison could not That the spirit of Mr Blaine will dominate the committee goes without saying As previously stated it is not probable that he great will be able to accept a presidential nomination in but that his spirit will enter into the contest is believed everywhere There are good democrats in the east hat are honest enough to say that had Mr Blaine been nominated he would probably have been elected There are Republicans who dispute this of course and will probably continue to do so There are others who insist hat had Mr Blaine been nominated ic would have been the chief issue in he campaign and that the platform of hat party adopted at Minneapolis would have been secondary in ance His views on nearly portant issue in the campaign were well known At this time it seems almost certain hat to win in 18 the Republican larty must choose an aggressive and leader It is also almost ertain that the candidate in must ome from the west It is a fact loo hat at this time Senator Allison of IN IOWA contests are popular in Iowa now In a Cass county match Blakenship L Harrison and John M Patten They had been run ning a still in the mountains of that state and are tough looking citizens One of them had a bullet hole in his side which was given to him about seven months ago while engaged in a fight with a fellow moonshiner Sioux City council has at last taken action in the matter of enforcing health rules in order to guard against the further spread of diphtheria The disease has been raging for some weeks and practically no attempt has been made to prevent its spread The school board at last took up the matter and brought it before the at tention of the city council with the re sult that hereafter all health rules will be rigidly enforced damage suit brought by the heirs of one Graham who was killed by the breaking of a bridge over which he was running a traction en gine near Port Dodge against the county of Humbolt was tried in Poca hontas county It resulted in a victory for the county it having been proven that Graham cracked the timbers the day before and was warned not to attempt to cross The jury decided that his death was due to his own care lessness young fellow about 30 years of age and giving the name of H A An drews has been
