music address in German sing ing address music by the band bene diction In the afternoon the steam fire engine Jewell will give an exhibition of throwing water Boat At a special meeting of lied Jacket engine and hose company at their hull last evening it was decided to hold a daneo in the Opera House on the evening of July This dunce is to be called the Jeanie Jewell dance and is to be for llw benefit of the Red Jacket engine and hose company The Opera House will be arranged for the accommodation of a large number of dancers and every pains will bo taken to make the affair pleasant to all con cerned A committee consisting of M Adams and S M UolT was select ed to canvass for the sale of tickets and we hope that our citizens will do their duty by the brave fire boys as they ever do by our when the hour of danger to person or property by lire comes Tickets of admission will be placed at 100 per couple which will entitle the holders to par in the dance Those not desir ing to dance sounded from the east side which at once called out the department Tlie steamer went over the bridge with the horses on the run and bad steam up when they reached the Logan House by which time the alarm was contradict ed The Water Witch was run down to 7th street but returned not being needed The cause of the alarm was the striking by lightning of a house belonging to Mrs E Neary at corner of Franklin and 9th streets The bolt struck the chimney and tore it entirely to pieces At the bottom of the chim ney a respectably sized door way was torn through a partition wall and the glass in one window blown On the other side of the chimney the ceiling was badly damaged and bricks forced through the lath and at quite a distance from the chimney The bolt apparently went into the cel lar though the casing at the south east corner of the slightly opened tip Shingles wore torn oft in several places from the roof Fortunately no one was living in the house at the time It was one of the severest
